Could someone give me an idea of how page rank works?

Ok, Im sorry, but I am having a slight bit of a problem understanding how page rank works. :o
I am trying to figure out how or what needs to be done, to get your site ranked along the same page rank numbers.
I have seen sites with a homepage ranking at 6, but internal pages only ranking at 3 or 4?
I am looking for a quick lesson on channeling pagerank.

PR is passed to your subordinate pages with links. If you wish to increase the level of PR to a page send more internal links to it from your main pages. Generally it's rare to see pages of the same level (all linked to one-another) have more than one number of PR difference.

You can always get outside links pointing to specific pages to give them a boost as well. Do you refer to the site in your sig?

Lets say, if you have a page that has 3 links pointing to it. If you add 10 other links on other pages to it... you will send more PR to that page and make it go up. A text link sends PR to that page, more links, more PR...

In every forum there are theory after theory on how Google calculates PR. Nobody knows and Google is not about to divulge. I am at the point to where I really don't care about the details of how PRs are derived. All I know is that I must increase my PR via BLs from relevant sites, the higher the PR the better, through text anchored BLs. Everything else is pure conjecture.
