I run a network of sites that are related to sports picks and I was wondering what the best directories to submit to are? I am sure dmoz will be the top but since that one takes forever and its the only great one I know of does anyone else know of any? I was thinking about Yahoo but I have nearly 20 sites and they charge like 300 bucks a whack which I think makes it not worth it at all. Just looking for some ideas but keep in mind they have to have a sports information or gambling section for my sites.
Also I read in another post that online gambling sites are bad to link with. NONE of my sites take wagers or anything like that and there is nothing illegal about them so does that make any differance in my link exchanges?
Hi,
Most directories are organised on a category, sub-category basis. You just need to browse to the appropriate category for your site and hit the "submit url" button.
You will then submit a title (which will often be your anchor text, so choose carefully), some explanatory text about your site, possibly some keywords, your name, and your email. Choose a working, "spare" email because some directories are just set up to harvest emails.
A few things.
You should check the terms of the directory, some are paid, some are reciprocal exchanges only (ie you have to link back to them), and some are oneway links.
It's probably better not re-use your text for each submission and to mix it all up a bit. Read this article about anchor text (title text for most directories):

Show some respect for the directory editor. Don't submit titles and text that are keyword stuffed and ALL CAPS in the title. Usually the editor wants home page urls only, but if an editor allows "deep" urls, then go for it. Sometimes the editor wants your domain name in the title and not the nice keyword-rich one you want to submit. Some directories want keywords separated by commas, other spaces.... read the bumpf carefully or your submission will be rejected.
KEEP A LIST of your submissions with url, date, title, description, (keywords), any user names and passwords. After a few months you will forget completely and waste time otherwise.
There are plenty of directories you can submit to, and you can find a good list here:

Get busy..... :p
Cheers,
Paz.
