Hello,

This question is addressed to some of the experts on this forum. I have done research on this before asking this question but I have found many discrepancies and disagreements on this issue.

I am new to SEO and I just wondered what exactly is the difference between "being in google"/"indexed"/"spidered" and then actually having a page rank.

I have got zero page rank on a few newish websites that have been spidered during the past four weeks and I just wondered if this was "normal" or does Google just hate me :( and doesn't value me in anyway!!

Any advice would be supremely welcomed.

"being in google"/"indexed"/"spidered" and then actually having a page rank.

spidered is the term used when googlebot, visits your sites and runs through it. Once this has occured you are in google and have an indexed site i.e) if you search you domain you will see your site in google.

Pagerank is a measure of your websites popularity; how many times it occurs throughout the web on different sites via backlinks. You generate these via backlinks with the clickable text on which you want to be searched i.e)

babies clothes your clickable text will be babies clothes etc... the number of backlinks you have with this is a major factor in googles results ....

When you do get backlinks you will start seeing the effect in the SERPs rather quickly, but will not get PR credit on the toolbar for around 2 BL updates. Just keep going for the text anchored BLs from, preferably, relevant sites. The PR will take of itself.

sure ... links are the most important factor for google optimization ... rather than yahoo which base their results on on-page optimization mostly

visiting this and other seo related forums regulary you should make some progress quite quickly ... but also be aware that being a succefull seo means having patience
