Also could linking to each site increase Google PR?

Dont use your own sites to artificially inflate your pagerank, go out and get links from "relevant" webmasters who have sites along a similar theme to your own. Forget the pagerank just go for a volume of relevant links with your main keywords as the anchor text and switch them up once in a while
