Hello Friends,
New for me, Perhaps not new for some experienced SEOs.
Two of my sites are running from same folder. Both the sites are same, i.e one is copy of another.
Now is it good from SEO point?
When I check google cache for one site it show me the cache of other site.
What should I do in this case?
In this situation, will google treat them as Mirror sites?
Which one should I optimize to get better results or should I optimize them or not?
Waitng for your good suggestions. :D

Hi,

I'm guessing that you are running a multiple hosting plan.

It depends on the domains. I know you can run example.com example.tv and example.co.uk on the same IP without any penalty, but it led to inconsistencies in ranking so I ended up redirecting them all to one domain.

If you have identical copies of site1.com and site2.com, especially on the same IP, it's asking for trouble.

Cheers,
Paz.

Google ofcourse will count your site as a mirror site when ur sites have

1. Same IP
2. Same Content
3. Same design
4. Same folder

So it will obiviously effect your site and i think in my opinion you should optimize your first site and shld remove your second site that is copied from the server also u shld remove.

Because there is no benefit to promote that kind of sites that are mirrors of some site because its your site so may be thast why u didnot get problem till now but it can create problem for you in future.

Thanks Paz,
Yes, Both of my sites are running from same IP i.e. 194.72.69.144
( I guess by saying multiple hosting you mean that only)
As you said redirecting will help, but in near future we'll develop the other site also. Redirecting will kill that IP?
Both the sites are having PR 3.
Pls Suggest.

Well if you are planning to develop the second site in a short time, you can ban all bots from the second one with a robots.txt file until it's ready.

If you don't redirect or exclude soon, at least one of your PR 3s could well end up being a PR N/A.

Cheers,
Paz.

Thanks Paz,
Will it be a good idea to make another folder with different name and running the second site from that folder, with all the content changed?
Actually, I am planning this thing?
I will change the name of few links also.
Pls Sugest.

Yes change ALL the content on one as soon as possible. They'll be in different folders anyway, so I don't understand what you mean there.

Hi Paz,
You said my site will get banned.
But you will be surprised to know that both the sites are around 8 months old and doing well on SERPS.
So, why google has not banned them earlier??
They are coming in SERPS for one or two keywords. :D

I have heard that google can ban you for same links on two sites, like
yyy.com/xyz/pqr/citybreaks.aspx on one site and xxx.com/xyz/pqr/citybreaks.aspx on another site ??
So, I was saying that I'll change the name of the links also.

So why are you wasting my time then?!

Look, I get PM's from people asking why they've been banned/penalised in Google, and increasingly in Yahoo too.

One thing that many of them have in common is that they have networks of similar sites on the same IP.

I don't know how you've been able to spam the search engines for eight months without being caught; I suspect you've been able to stay under the radar because it's an uncompetitive search term.

Cheers,
Paz.

Hi,
I don't have intentions of wasting anyone's precious time. I just had a problem, and was trying to discuss it.
But if you consider it as a time wastage then please delete this post.

Bye the way, those sites belong to someone else. I just got to optimize them recently.
Thanks for your help.
