Msn Theory:
I was having some web hosting problems last month where I moved my site twice because of unreliable hosts. My site was going down for hours at a time. (I'm sure everybody in this forum has had these problems from time to time.) In the transitions my search engine rankings held up on Google and Yahoo but MSN's spider must have tried to find me when my site was down which crapped my ranking out! Two days ago, I resubmitted my index page and my site map. Today, I'm back in heavy action.
Maybe a good idea would be to submit your site let's say once a month to MSN? Maybe MSN needs a little reminder once in a while?

Maybe it's a glitch that you disapeared... was down a full week (was on vacation when it happend) and did not lose anything... SE know that hosts are often unreliable and sites can move or be down for a while... never submitted and MSN is now faster than Google at finding and indexing pages of old or new sites...

What ever the reason, I'm going to try submitting my sitemap and index page every time I see a slip to see what happens.

Hi, there is no need to resubmit a site to MSN everytime you see some ups and downs in your rankings and listings. Just make sure you have established some nice backlinks to ensure your ever crawling and indexing.
You have done the right thing to change your webshosting agent because nowadays, all hosting providers claim 99.9% uptime status but many of them never pass 85% uptime status at any optimal time. ;)

I have knowledge of this but nobody really knows how MSN works. If they did, everybody would have #1 position for whatever they wanted on a consistant basis (24/7) and there would be no need for an MSN forum.
I have over 1840 backlinks pointing to my website, that's what my link popularity report says. I thing that's more than enough. I will continue to resubmit these two pages (Index & sitemap) every time my site craps out on MSN. When my site is indexed in MSN, I don't experience any ups and downs. It's either up or down. If it's down, it's down for weeks. When it's up, it's up for months. If there is a glitch or memory address loss with their spyder, it can't hurt to resubmit your site every once in a while when you are nowhere to be found on their search engine.
It seems to work for me, Jeff O'

Hi, nobody knows for sure how the other engines of Yahoo and Google work either except their respective employees. Please note that MSN in perticular is famous for it's volatile search results.
Resubmitting a website to MSN bot for many times is not harmful but not recommended, try intereacting with bots friendly to expect friendly results. ;)
