First, great job on your design...one of the nicest I have seen from an aesthetic perspective. And your content is second-to-none judging from what I have read so far.

I own www.amman.com and am having a dickens of a time getting my PR higher and getting ranked higher in Yahoo/Google.

I am currently 14th on Yahoo for the search term "amman jordan" but I'm not even on Google's radar (I paid for placement for a long time, but this site is not a money maker so I can't pay $200 per month to be at the top of Search engines).

I have tried a couple of the tricks that I read here (like playing with keyword density, etc. but I am UBER-NEWB when it comes to SEO).

Who do I need to kill to get a higher PR and high placement in Google? :useforce:

Wow... nice site buddy. How old is the site?

If it's new then you'll have to be patient. It's like a fruit... takes time to be sweet.
If it's like more than 6 months, you should send those links request emails buddy.
You show no backlinks on your home and links makes the PR.
So get more links to your pages, the look of your site will make this easy I think.

Thanks for the compliment...I spent a lot of time designing that site, only to find that my original design (all frames) made it search-engine hostile. The revised version that you see now is not quite as tight as the first version, but is definitely faster and more search engine friendly.

The site has been up for a year or so and people seem to be VERY stingy with their links. I have gotten some high-profile links, but they are from pages that link in an untrackable way. (example: The British Embassy in Jordan has a link to my site, but it looks like this: http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/ExternalLinkURLRedirectServlet?linkurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amman.com%2F&LinkMap=0&linkname=PostJO_Amman.Com&referpagename=Links)

Abu, Jocelyn's right about the links and Google. You may want to start with directory submissions as most provide a link to your site without having to link back. The most important is DMOZ so make sure you're familiar with their submission guidelines.

I'll PM you a list of directories that I've been compiling.

The other thing is that you may want to add a link to your site in your forum signature as they'll count as links too.

HI Abu, I would recommend changing your title a bit, you have..

"Amman.com | The official Internet Site of Jordan"

Try adding "Amman Jordan" to the beggining as that was one of your main terms I believe. If it where me I would use...

"Amman Jordan the Official Jordan Website"

Not saying that is the best one, it's just what I'd use. This brings your denisty up a bit as well as your placement, the keyword is at the beggining now. And of course, the links are going to help hugely as Jocelyn said.

http://www.amman.com/ a new members website www.jimmessenger.com a website built by SEO Guy, it seems we have very similar tastes in design my friend, your site is a tribute to hard work and talent.

Now onto ranks, I say ignore onpage for the most part right now, concentrate on themed links, there are thousands of sites out there that arent stingy you just need to know how and where to look. We have a link exchange forum here, your welcome to post your site, in fact I would be honored if you did. Next try going to google and typing "travel link exchange" http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=travel+link+exchange or something, that should give you a great start. And as always come to SEO guy often to ask for advice
Cheers
Morgan
