Using Google Sitemaps - Helpful or Harmful

Hey all.

Was wanting to know if pages not listed in my sitemap will still be indexed, and if those pages not listed in the sitemap will get the same attention (e.g. regular indexing), that the pages in the sitemap get.

I currently have over 36k pages indexed (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-17,GGGL:en&q=site%3Awww.livewebshop.com), but only about 1500 in the sitemap (http://www.livewebshop.com/sitemap.xml.gz), this is the reason I ask, I'd hate to use the sitemap if it's going to cause harm to my current indexing status.

Site is LiveWebShop (http://www.livewebshop.com)

I've figured the answer for myself. Google will still do it's normal indexing method, plus utilize the sitemap. I started this thread last week. I first started off with only 36k pages indexed, and a week later, thanks in large part to the Google sitemap, I have over 103k+ (http://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.livewebshop.com&hl=en&lr=lang_en&newwindow=1&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-17,GGGL:en&start=0&sa=N) pages indexed.

I love Google sitemaps.

Is the majority of your 103,000 page generated from Amazon's API?

Well using Google Sitemaps cant harm you but infact it can help you get indexed.

I'm well impressed with google sitemaps - from 16 pages to 151 indexed within 48 hours of setting up a submitting it!!!
