Can anyone recommend a couple of sites I can have a look at that offer php directory scripts?

Also, is there much difference between the free scripts and the ones which cost?

Well the best paid one is phpLD in my view, and we have some of its funtions posted here:

The free Site sift directory (http://scripts.site-sift.com/) is pretty good, I use it myself with some modifications, and they have their own support forum.

Just spotted the phplinkdirectory site after I'd made my post. Will look in more detail later but initial view is that it's just what I'm looking for.
