Hi,
Can too many links hurt website rankings? Or How many links are good for a website rankings?
Hi,
Any natural explosion in link growth doesn't seem to harm sites, or at least I've never heard of it, but I've found that if I "acquire" links in an un-natural way eg directory submissions with the same anchor text every time, then I've sometimes got hurt in Google even though I've done well in Yahoo.
The thing is, Google can't really penalise a webmaster for something he or she cannot control (ie external links), so their must be other on-page factors that might trigger problems. Goodness knows what they are, but I'd guess that they might use some sort of over-optimisation filter or something.
Cheers,
Paz.

Well if you are talking about the incoming links then no incoming links cant hurt your site infact they improve your sites position in search engines and you just need more quality links than your competitor and you would be at the top.

From what i have read lately, it seems like a huge explosion in links could actually harm to some extent. There have been people who get hundreds of links a month and often they will find a drop in rankings for a shortwhile, or they have been believed to be "sandboxed". Its best to find a natural amount of links. If you manage to get 100-200 links a month you should be fine, but i have heard of sites having minor penalties for gathering a large amount of links in a short time.

Ya you are right, but one thing you have to remember that search engine will not penalize you for ever for this they just do it to check spam but ya what you said is recommended from my site also.

The sudden increase in the number of links to a site can hurt the website performance but only if the domain name is too young. For example, as you can find on the web, there are some powerful designing websites with domain names dating back to even 1996 and now they buy hundreds of links in a couple of weeks and nothing bad happens.
The reason is the age of domain name. For new domains, the extra addition of links, at least for the first couple of months, is not really helpful.

According to me, if your site is new & it gets more links in short time period then it may hurt your site, but it will not effect on your ranking. Backlinks quality is important. When your backlinks are more & with high quality then it helps in getting high PR.

I personally try to get as many oneway links to my sites as long as they are either free and/or related to the subject of the sites.

One way links do most for your site. but it is not easy to get. We must work hard for that. Because it is most effective way to get top rankings.......Reciprocal links do favour but not that much as one way links ;)
