Just found this forum today so I have a lot of reading to do and then will put into practice.

Thanks

This is what I have tried so far...

Using a keyword density analyser on the pages I am trying to optimise.
Tried to get close to the keyword density of the pages higher than me in google.
I have been on a link campaign but these aren't showing up yet, inc bluefind.com.
I have tried to alter page titles to contain keyword.
I have added alt text to images.
I have created pages with the keyword in the page name eg hozelock_water_timer.asp
I am in the process of creating my sitemap where the links are the keywords and the file names are also the keywords.
All pages have a link to my homepage in the logo.

xx I have had to take my keywords off this site as they were getting this page listed under google for my keywords xx

You're doing the right things for sure, just try to get some more PR to the index page so that google will spider all of your pages. More PR will help so that new pages get spidered faster as well. Backlinks are something that you should work on to get rankings as well as adding new pages. Just keep doing what you're doing and you will do fine!

Does anyone have any specific suggestions?

It's a nice site well done. I'd use a keyword tag with your keywords in. Have use used digitalpoint.com's keyword suggestion tool (free) im not convinced that some of the keywords would be that profitable .ie) suggestions for watering system...

watering system 18.6 /day
drip watering system 9.6 /day
lawn watering system 7.6 /day
plant watering system 7.5 /day
garden watering system 5.9 /day
automatic watering system 3.9 /day
green house system watering 3.8 /day
self system watering 2.2 /day

No data for Hozelock AC1 or whatever at all ( so consider revising )
You'd me amazed at what people search....it's often completely different to how you think. So i'd check your targeted keywords before you start setting up backlinks with that text.

Good luck

I have done my research into keywords by using google adwords.

I have over 400 phrases that I am monitoring with google adwords, by using adwords I can see which give the most impressions, which give the most clicks and sales.

Those figures you have posted don't match mine but thats becuase they are not based on google search results.

Some of my keywords were getting 1,000 + impressions a day until I expanded them futher to include "", [] and identified some of the exact terms.

I also found that a number of my top keywords didn't result in many sales, as people were just browsing, I am not going to give away my sales ratios but I was getting about 200 click a day from one set of keywords which resulted in about 3 sales so I dropped those keywords.

I have some keywords with 25% + CTR and many result in sales and I have some others where nearly every click results in a sale.

I still have loads to learn on optimisation but I think I have my keywords sorted.

Thanks

Yeah, I use digitalpoint's tool just because it's free - good to hear you've done the right research I guess your the only one who can say where your success lies...

keywords in your url would help as well as the use of h2 headings i.e) Hozelock Ultra 12 Premium you may as well put your listing in h2 headings etc for prominence...

I like the look of your site though so no doubt when you have more backlinks and gain higher PR it will do well.

We have every intention of using a conversion tool at some point in the future, but will do alot of stuff like this when the gardening season has finished.

At the moment we are concentrating on increasing quality inbound links. We are only adding links from gardening related sites or good directories. We are doing this now as it takes so long for the links to be picked up.

We are also concentrating on adding new products to the site as we currently have alot of products in stock that arn't on the site and the site also only currently lists about 10% of the items that are planned for next year so we have a lot on over the next 8 months.

I have tried a few SEO forums but this one knocks the socks off the others.

Wrockca,

I have taken a look at the conversion ruler, it looks good but it doesn't seem to know how much the click cost. And how could it as every click is costed differently in adwords.

Doesn't Google already offer this facility by adding code to the website in order to pass sales data back to the adwords tool.

Then you can see the conversion rate and value, cost value verses sales value.

I haven't tried either of these yet so I am talking purely based on research.

I have used a ton of tools that calculate Cost per Click vs. Conversions and found that with the amount I was spending on tracking I was loosing on clicks. With my traffic to Choppers Apparel (http://www.choppersapparel.com) I was paying $500 - $700 per month for real time tracking results and decided to try conversion ruler to focus on the bigger picture "Conversions".

Using Conversion Ruler I can setup variable strings at the end of each tern I am bidding on in my PPC campaigns to show me in the software what Term was productive and what terms are not.

I use this code for tracking at the end of each link:

?source=google_searchterm

This also tells me if a word is getting tons of clicks but not enough conversions. Then once I have found terms not performing, then I investigate on "WHY". I will then ask a few questions to myself. Why is it not converting and try to answer those questions?

Examples of Questions:

1. Does my copy tell the reader the wrong information?

2. Does my landing page need to have more selling points to backup the ad copy?

I will then make some changes to the ad or to the landing destination, once done I will then monitor that term I optimized, in order to see the results from Conversion Ruler. I will do this until I start getting improved data conversions and if all else fails; I know that I need to drop my Max Bid price.

No I have effectively found out how my ads are performing and saved myself $500-700 per month for software that gives great data but it piles up on my desk and I can now focus money on my PPC click traffic. NO WASTED MONEY

I think I pay on average $79.99 per month for Conversion Ruler

I hope this was helpful

Yes very helpful, in fact so helpful that I think I am sold and I am going to take the free trial.

Are you sure you don't work for them , if not then you really do rate the product.

Na I don't work for them but I was refered by Andrew Goodman and his team do a google search for his name and he is where I had learned most of my info. Great guy, I just support there product because of all the money it has saved me and allowed me to reduced my PPC spending on google from 2000.00 a day to $532.00 with the same conversions just cut out the useless traffic.

Have Fun. Any more questions let me know. Just happy to be able to help someone else doing just what I am doing.

Oh I almost forgot part of the code to use:

always seperate your terms with +

example code: ?source=google_william+rock

I will also add to the link if its exact match, phrase match

example code: Google Code

?source=google_william+rock_EXACTMATCH

?source=google_william+rock_PHRASEMATCH

Set optional individual CPCs and destination URLs for each keyword in this ad group. Example: keyword**0.25**http://www.yoururl.com/xyz

example code: Overture

?source=overture_william+rock

it makes it much easier to read the reports
