Found a site that sells software that supposedly "prowls" to find relevant sites with high pr. does anyone know if software of this kind works? I'm leery coz the site itself is PR0 and not in Googles index!

That Pr Prowler or something similar >? Like you already said if their sites PR sucks ...there is no point in getting it. The problem with linking is that everyone wants high PR links....to get High Pr links you have to have a high PR yourself ( in most cases ) so aim for PR3, PR4 sites at first before getting fed up of the rejection of linking to PR 6-7-8 links.

Once your links page is PR 4 the linking process becomes easier; remember some PR 4 links pages can give less PR to you than a PR3 link for example so Look for the volume of links on a page also.

I am a big fan of OptiLink or Link Proctor.

linktree & prog are solid if you want free

I didn;t get any results at first because I wanted results with a PR10 or above. There were none. If that what you are doing lower the PR to maybe 5.

Hi melaniejk, I don't see a problem,

maybe U r limiting the PR (example:from 8 and above) on the tool?

this is what I got from the tool for these parameters:

Keywords: genealogy
Pages depth: 4
Rank Limit: 0

http://www.seo-guy.com/seo-tools/google-pr.php?act=go&keywords=genealogy&pdepth=4&rlimit=0

tell us if U managed to handle it.

I think we spend TOO MUCH TIME on Google's PR. What happens if tomorrow Yahoo or MSN suddenly becomes the #1 Search Engine? What will all those people do? Obviously you can't ignore Google, but I think the obsession over PR is too much. Yahoo is S L O W L Y creeping up on Google, and when MSN finally launches, I think Google will have it's hands full...

gps31 has a good point, yahoo! is pretty low here but msn has a new rise, we should all remember what happened to NETSCAPE and how powerful is mr. Gates.

Google rules and will rule but... for how much longer??? 4ever???

4 the last 2 years it's pretty obvious that microsoft is planning a search bomb with the release of Longhorn, probably a desktop search with smart algo web results + all your computer / shared drives / net search & indexing, (+clustering?)

the behaviour of the biG is a little stress-expressed - the come-back of ad-sense, the graphic ads, the affiliate boost, the assimilation and distribute of the pics software, the deskbar (http://toolbar.google.com/deskbar/index.html), the massive sales attack and the effort to get some of the seo market... the IPO bla bla bla.

either way - it's gonna be interesting, i'm staying ;)

rizla - you nailed it. Besides everything you mentioned, let's not forget that Billy Gates has the most $$$ to spend, and he's already implanted his OS on BILLIONS of machines all over the world.

We may look back in 5 years and think of Google as a Do-Do bird...

I took a quick peek at the SEO Guy PR-find tool, and I am having results opposite to Melanie's: she could get nothing, while I am getting everything--that is, there does not seem to be a PR limit being imposed.

If I search on <science fiction fantasy> using a 10-page depth and a PR setting of 7 (which will exclude most sites in that category), I get a list of 100 sites, in SERPs order, a typical one looking like this:
22 /url?sa=U&start=22&q=http://greatsfandf.com/&e=42I can use pretty much any PR value (I tried 5, then 6, then 7) and I get the identical 100-site list.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Hi.
I got it to work tonight.
Last time the loading bar graphic never even came up (like when flash is loading).
I don't know, I didn't do anything different this time.
Thanks for your help. I wouldn't have bothered to try it again if I didn't hear that you all got it to work. :)

ok here is a software review!!! I bought PR Prowler! Boy did it suck. First if you know anything about the keywords you are targeting then the results are no surpirse. The added boost to PR was caculated if you are PR0 and the results often time out, and the package becomes locked up and unresponsive. As for showing the top 20 sites for the KW you are seaching on, an extra click won't hurt you. I didn't see the time saving this program boasts. Overall, use the SE's. BTW this software was 97USD. Outrageous!!!
