Do you think that there is any relevancy of using a h1 or h2 tag with an image i have seen some sites doing this.

Sounds a bit like wishful thinking to me. I would tend to say no it's not worth it, especially if Google decides that it's a spammy technique and you get into trouble for it. But I could be wrong, is anyone getting any benefit from this tactic?

The question, I suspect, is not whether you get a benefit, but whether you take a loss.
An h1 (or h2) is a fairly powerful marker. I can understand designing a page on which the h1, for example, is an image, perhaps a graphic with the title of the site, or of that page, done up fancy. The question is then what a searchbot will make of that image h1: will they see it as blank (null) text? or will they use the "alt" text (surely we all do supply alt text?) as the h1 text? If the former, a strong augmentation is lost.
It is, I think, a bit of a risk, and for SEO the rule is Never take needless risks, however small.

I dont think there is a benefit, as I have not seen a benefit from the alt being read at all in the last few months unless it was an image link, I would not put an image in an H1 there just is no justification for it
