View Full Version : Keeping track of your SEO
What do you guys use for keeping track of all your SEO techniques that you try? Also, do you setup comparison charts on every detail between your site and your competitors? If so, what type of software do you use and what's the best way to go about doing something like this?
Basically I'm in charge of SEO for a site. I need to report all the different techniques that I use and why. I also need to keep track and see if they are working or not. Does this make sense?
Thanks

lol just look at the seo tools section; there's loads of stuff on there.
It's just a matter of which you like

You're taking it waay too literally.
We use the same basic tactics on every site we approach, and vary them as required for the project.
The biggest tools that I use are the digitalpoint keyword tracker and suggestion tools. By using those too you can develop pretty good metrics to use for reporting purposes.

Does this mean I can get rid of those chicken heads?

Yup :D
And can you stop poking pins into me while you're at it?
Yeah I know about all the different tools I can use, but I need to document everything and have it saved so I can compare what has worked and what hasnt etc..

Wlh, an observation. Unfortunately, unless you have a great deal of time, you'll not be able to do just one thing and record the benefits (unless it's an established site with high PR, crawled regularly). If it's the site in your sig, it may be awhile before you see the fruits of your labor. Those at the top are PR 5-7
One thing I don't get if it is the site in your sig. #7 allinanchor, #3 allintitle, #8 allintext... no-where in SERP's PR-0
How long's the site been up? Did you recently lose PR? Anybody else?
Actually no its not the site in my sig. Anyways, what are you typing in to check the allinanchor, allintitle and allintext ? Ive never tried those before. Actually the site in my sig is new (couple weeks) we are working full time to get backlinks trying to get our pr up but not a lot of people are responding... thanks
ok actually I see how you check it, but could you point me to somewhere where I can find out what those commands mean?

Google Operators (http://www.google.com/help/operators.html) If it's a new site that other comment is even more true (about taking time to see results). What's up with the site in your sig?
Thanks for the resource :) What do you mean with the site in my sig?

I was just curious, rather strange to show those allin results, not have decent serps and no PR. Is it less than 4 mos old, has it recently lost PR.... Feel free to ignore the questions, as I said I'm just curious.
oh nope, we just opened it a few weeks ago, so its never had any pr... Actually we are doing pretty well with yahoo sofar for some keywords. We have been sitting around #19 on first page for 'eye care information' and #8 on first page for 'eye surgeries' but still no results for just 'eye care'

That makes more sense, maybe you've got some links that haven't kicked in yet. We've just seen some strange things lately from Google. Glad for you that yours isn't one. Thanks Wlh.
no problem, oh and can I ask, what does all those google operators do to really help us with SEO? Im just now sure how I should use all that information.

Allinanchor, is the big one, or so it seems to me. Shows results by the anchor text linking to you Allintitle compares pages that contain the phrase in the title (more accurate indicator of competition for specific phrases.) All in text compares pages that contain the search phrase in text.
If you do well for all three (there's the allinurl too) you should do well in the serps.
ahh I see, hmm we do pretty well for those. I wonder once google stops going through whatever they are going through we should do pretty well in the serps, you think?

Yea, I think so too but I'd keep getting links. Here's an example from SEO Bob's competition.
xoduszero (http://www.seo-guy.com/web-hosting/) position 7
allinanchor: xoduszero (http://www.seo-guy.com/web-hosting/) 7
allintitle: xoduszero (http://www.seo-guy.com/web-hosting/) 14 of 36
allintext: xoduszero (http://www.seo-guy.com/web-hosting/) 7
Sorry Joc, SEO-Guy... spammin' for the bear.
oh wow, thats pretty good. Thanks for the tip I will keep all that handy

Maybe I'm missing the question because no one has suggested this, but a keyword tracker - such as the one at DP (http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/keywords/) - is pretty darn useful IMHO ...

Yea, I think he's looking to compare cause and effect. It is a great tool and certainly should help.
