Ok now i have been studying quite a few websites of our competitors and their links are ranging in thousands. The reason is simple and straight forward that these guys have networks of websites where they can easily put up links on ever page footer. Which gets them this kind of boost in backlinks and i can see for sure that it helps.

Our seo guy is using similar strategy.!!!

I have also seen that there are people who are selling space on their website, at the footer on every page at a monthly cost. These websites are huge in pages say 2000 or more.

So my question is should we go in for something similar or not.

For the terms we are competiting we are well placed #5 (backlinks 70), compeitors have backlinks upto 3500.

I request a comment.

Brainpulse, This is only my opinion I really don't have any relevant data but... I'd be very cautious with site-wides and well networked sites particularly so if they're not relevant.

Relevancy i can understand, incase the websites are relevant, then would it be recommended. And what do you have to say about SEO GUY himself using site-wides.

I understand that, which is why i have my reservation... please check pluginspace.com and there backlinks. they have purchased backlinks for the anchor text "linux hosting" and is ranked 1 in google, atleast a 1000 backlink with anchor text as linux hosting are comming to the website. Website from where they are getting backlinks is www.cgiexpo.com/?qi=4336

Comment please

Brainpulse,
1. Perhaps you missed the disclaimer
2. It's not my desire to critique or evaluate anyone (I'm just here to help brother)
3. I urged only caution as it is my humble opinion that if not managed carefully it can create issues. I do not intend to imply that no-one is or has used it to gain advantage.
4. I'll skip your reference if you don't mind.

This one caused me to start chanting Dead Meat (http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315&page=2) so I moved to an other thread.
