I know that SP2 is being released pretty quickly, but for those of you who can't wait, and don't have MSDN and Technet access, here's a link to download it from while it lasts.
As many of you know, Microsoft is saying that there may be some compatibility issues with SP2, so I figured that you try it, you can post a bit about your configuration and if you have any isses or not.
The link is here (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en)
I'm Running:
XP Pro
Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0.1
Office 2003
Mozilla Firefox 0.9
Adobe Photoshop CS
Secure Shell Client
Cute FTP Professional 6.0
and have not encountered any problems. If I've forgotten any major apps, please let me know, or post your own results.

Here's something that just came through NTBUGTRAQ. This may be of a huge concern to those of us who run a testing server on our workstation:
I got this message from one of my technical people.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 is incompatible with Daemon Tools, which is installed on some of the office computers. (I pooched my workstation.)
The supplementary EULA seems to have two interesting tidbits:
1. You are prohibited from installing technologies that compete with Remote Desktop if you have a Home Edition license. (ie: PCanywhere or VNC.)
2. You cannot host network services on an XP computer for the non-primary user. (ie: No more Apache.)
To say that this is a little bit disturbing would be an understatement. Additionally, how anyone could legally put that kind of restrictions on their product amazes me. Anyways, it's something to consider.

Good God what is Microsoft doing????? Seems to me they are looking to restrict what you can install inorder for them to make even more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. OK people listen I am a Microsoft geek BUT this wants me to bash them over there heads. I hate there Business Practices but the Windows OS rules and so does any of there business software.
OK Bill Gates is worth $40 some billion and Steve Jobs is worth around $2.5 billion and they started about the same time. Who thinks Bill Gates cheated his way in? Who thinks Apple should get that money instead of MS?

sp2 turns on the windows firewall by default,
integrates popup blocker into ie,
works with the nx bit (anti-virus) if you have an athlon 64,
they got rid of the "copyright 2001" in the startup screen and now it just says "copyright microsoft" (i found that funny),
oh yeah, installs messenger 6.2 and media player 9 even if you don't want them,
they say it makes you more secure... i'm not sure how i feel about that,
and it pretty much forces u to turn on windows update.
I have a problem to report: I'm having issues with DVD X Copy - can't read, or write to DVD's. Additionally, Nero reports an issue with my version of the operating system (the error message is distributed by Windows, not Ahead) but it will burn cd's, but not DVD.
I've just finished slipstreaming sp2 into a new cd and will perform a reinstall tonight, so I'm hoping the dvd issue resolves itself when the hardware is detected from scratch.

Actually i'm reading in lots of forums some problems that really make me think about installing SP2.
It limits the TCP/IP connections to 10/seg or something, it has compatibility issues with some software...
M$ wants to stop at full force their bad reputation about spreading worms, and actually I kind of encourage them to do this (c'mon, how many people have windows updated, a firewall and a av?). This will, IMO, "protect" the unexperienced computer users that have no clue about worms, viruses and other things... Of course, we still have the crazy email attachments...
The TCP/IP limit can be modified, firewall can be shutdown (if you user other one), you can shutdown antivirus also... This is something that experienced users (xp - xperience... LOL) can fix, just go Google or TweakXP and search.
M$ isn't that evil anyway, most of us use their products. It's just a point of view thing.

It seems to me, that instead of going through all these indrect methods to fix the problem of email-spread viruses, why don't they create a firewall of sorts and encrypt the address book. Then viruses wouldn't be able to find their next victims on an infected user's comp, and propogate from there.
Then we could leave my windows the way i like it, and localize infection. Push the antivirus angle (i really do find it interesting that MS hasn't included an antivirus software package yet) and wouldn't most of the problems be fixed?
