View Full Version : Search engines and JavaScript menus
I've came across rather interesting article about how search engines behave with JavaScript menus. It is Search engines and your fancy menu: will they escape? (http://www.websiteceo.com/articles/js-indexing.htm)
This is a great find but I wish I could find the source code for the javascript some some are actually pretty search engine friendly, but it takes longer for the SEs to decode them eg onclick( parselink("/sitemap.html")) will usually work ok, but the scripts that do more processing eg onclick( parselink(url_2)) won't be.
I also see that some of the js linked pages are cached in Google now.
Anyway, I always recommend CSS dropdown lists and here's the best one I know of;

Cheers,
Paz.

nice one.. i've seen one of these css menus...
It's based on the Suckerfish dropdown menu but it has better cross browser support.

If your into .NET development, there's great tools and components for ASP.NET, and windows application development, from Telerik. They have several different types of menu components, all of which produce search engine friendly menu's. Personally, I particularly like the PanelBar type menu.
There's demo's of all their controls and components here:

SEs can read some JavaScript so not always you need to sacrifice you beautiful design
