Hi Morgan
Thanks for keeping me in mind - it's free advice you're giving so any help is appreciated
:)
Leeds,
As Morgan is too busy at the moment, I gave a look to your website.
I'm not a SEO expert as Morgan so take what I'm saying as a friendly advice, not professional.
First of all , about your allinanchor, you claim to be #2 but I was not able to see you in this position for "marketing plan" , can you point me to the search you did to show this result?
I can see you number #2 for "allinanchor:click here to plan your marketing today" but I think it should be better to focus your links directly to the most important keywords so in my opinion I would change the links to something like :
click here to get your <anchor> marketing plan </anchor> today.
Or something like it.
About metatags, altough google seems not to give em weight, I would put in the description and keywords some more keyword combinations , based on what you think people will type looking for your services.
Ie, you are in great position for "sample plans and marketing advice", your main title. Think about this, I would change the title and try to reflect more the kws people will look for, I don't think someone will try to search for "sample plans and marketing advice" , don't ya?
You are in second page for "chartered institute of marketing" .
Great position for "marketing plan click" and "marketing plan template" using "only .uk sites" .
But wo will look for "marketing plan click"? So give a better look to your anchor tags.
I don't know how strong is competition in your business, but I definitely would look for different kws combination, keep in mind you cannot imagine how much traffic you can get from kws combination you did give not weight.
I'm sure "marketing plan" is not the only way to find your kind of services, ie : "business marketing plans" , sites like www.bplans.com that's one of your best competitor, rank well for this too.
Take some friends, let them try to decide what kws they would use to find services like yours, and then ask again more people. Then put these kws and give them importance. I know is a boring job...
Use a robots tag some bot will read it.
Author too, is a good way to write the name and email of the author of the page.
Put on your website a good hit analyzer, a robot hit analyzer too.
Make some adword campaign , first to try top understand what kws people will use to find you , spend some money to rank well in adwords and analyze the results, then optimize some of your pages for the most relevant (but not HIGH competitive) results, you will be impressed by the kws combination you never tought of.
Use file names that reflects your keywords for the page, some bots will notice it.
Ok stop now. Hope this will help a little.
Best wishes and good luck for your rankings!!
Cheers

Giacomo, thanks very much for the heads up.
FYI - the allinanchor is on google.co.uk as follows:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&c2coff=1&q=allinanchor%3Amarketing+plan&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB
You're right about the combos so I'll have a look at that.
Keep ya posted

I put in all the tips for my site (http://www.marketing-plan.co.uk) but so luck - still absolutely zero traffic from google.
I did notice on another part of the forum about banned links.
To my embarrasment I had a link to linksmanager  so I have just taken this away. My PR was reduced on most pages also so methinks this could be the culprit
Will let you know

leeds1.
Regarding the URL you posted above http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...yUK%7CcountryGB
If you go to that URL, below the search box you have selected on "search pages from UK" and not the web. I don't see your site there, but even if you were there, you wouldn't rank on the regular SERPs because there is a huge difference between "search pages from UK" and "from the web" .
People usually search "from the web" and not select regionally.
Well this is only my opinion, no offence :)

I do not have a link to linksmanager but I do link to some other link exchange sites including LinkPartners.com which is the free site which complements LinksManager.com - Is this bad? How do I know which sites not to link to?
