Your Ideal Google Friendly Links Details

Assume for instance that you were going to buy some links from the homepages or blogs contents of a leading website on the net and your main goal would be to increase your web rankings.

What would be your yardsticks, metrics, ideal plans or whatever you are going to call it enabling you to analyze the links values? Do you think about the Alexa rankings of the websites, the PR of links pages, etc?

As per my view, i calculate the link values with the metrics of Page Rank factors. I am not going to calculate the future PR but when going to buy links, i consider all factors which are needed to calculate PR. ( Following factors of PR algorithm)

I would want to find some leading blogs that publish quality content and get them to write a story about me. That way I get a permanent link, and likely a (temporary) homepage links as well.

First I see that the content of the site is relevant ( at least in a way ) to mine.
Second I will take in consideration: Alexa, PR, and pages indexed by google.

just what i'd do, too.

the only metric i use for trying to assess the quality of a site is - does it rank well for keywords that are competive for it?

if the site does rank - does it rank for keywords i also wish to rank for? if so, big win.

even if it doesnt rank for keywords i want to rank for, is it related in any other way to mine? (ie, if the site used adsense, and i used adwords, would my site show well on there as a targeted ad).
essentially i'm saying would users of this site actually be interested in my site or is it a totally random connection. if the users would be interested i'd consider it.

i know people get success with buying links from high profile sites that arent related in any way whatsoever, but me personally, i don't see that being a long term win.
