Hi all,
My name is Jim and I am trying to optimze a website aimed at the online offshore sports gambler. I am eager and excited by all that I am learning but i am a novice. A novice website builder and a very novice SEO guy. I have read many great things here and I have started by adding some links to my site. I searched on google for the keywords i am using and the sites that were most popular form the search i have started linking to. i just added these links at the bottom of my page so go ahead and laugh if you must. i am trying and thought I would start there. If anyone would like to tae a look at my site the url is http://www.securegamingalliance.com I look forward to hearing any simple advice some of you may have and I am going to be around for a long time. Some day I may even be able to answer some newbie's questions! Thanks for a great site all.

Jim Welcome to the forum :-)
And noone will laugh at you here

The first thing I must tell you is that you should remove all of those links to other sites, although it can be beneficial to link to 1 or 2 authorities on a particular subject that type of linking will be frowned upon for sure.

It also doesn't make your site look very attractive.

One of the main problems you will encounter right away is that it appears your titles are all the same on each page (i'm speaking of the <title> element)

Just because you are new, I would suggest before we take an in depth review of your site that you read my SEO Tutorial http://www.seo-guy.com/tutorial.html

And ask specific questions here at the forum as you study, this will not only help you learn but help us help you.

Another thing is your forum, before you get to attached to it I should warn you that the /ikonboard your using creates URL's that are extrememly search engine unfriendly so I would suggest switching to phpbb (Free download at http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php) or Vbulletin such as this site which can easily be modded to be very search engine friendly.

we hope you stick around and learn all there is to learn form us here and who knows perhaps 1 day the student will become the teacher, I had a teacher once too ya know ;)

Again welcome

Hi Morgan,
Thank You for your suggestions, I will look through the tutorial tomorrow. Is it ok If the links stay up for a few days because I need time to get back and remove them? Also, is it hopeless? A simple yes or no would be greatly appreciated! lol. I just really don't have a lot of cash to put towards a professional so i must take this on myself. Thanks again.

Nothing is hopeless my friend but the gambling market is one of the most competitive in the world so you have a tiger by the tail. You can learn to do it but it would be a much easier road if you chose a much less competitive market to practice on

Morgan,
I just went through the tutorial you suggested and it was great. Very informative but written so that even I can understand most of it! Thanks. I do have a few questions though if ya don't mind.

1. You mention not to copy a header from one page to another, I reall think I only have 2 pages? The first is my home page and the econd is the forum page. When people register with my site they can login and then they will see another page for their own personal acccount, but this can not be done without loggin in. Does this mean the spiders and robots can not get to that other page anyhow and I should not worry about it?

2. Second, you mentioned that if you have 30 keywords you should have at least 10 pages. Well, hmmmm, I have around 30 keywords and only one page? i uess that is not good so I should only keep maybe 5-6 of them?

3. My home page has a google PR of 5/10? At least that is what it shows on the google toolbar under Pagerank? How is this possible?

Thanks again for your help and for the great tutorial.

Sincerely,
Jim

Morgan or anyone who can help,
I am getting ready to re-work the website to improve the search engine optimization and i have a few questions. First, I have lowered and focused my Keyword count to 10. The website really only has 2 pages, the home page, and the forum page which is accessed by a link on the home page. So my question is should I put all 10 keywords in the description, title, and keywords for both pages or break it up and put 5 on each? I hope I am at least a little clear on my question, all help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Morgan,
I have changed my homepage to start reflecting some of the things I have read about to help optimize my site. Can youy take another look when you can http://www.securegamingalliance.com Also, I had another problem and was told to run my site through a validator and I found the problem but I also have 48 more??? Most of these say "meta" not allowed here?? Will this stop google botss from finding my site? Thnaks
