Hi,

I am new to this whole linking thing. I purchased Arelis because it was recommended in this forum. The program seems very powerful. But with power always comes risk. I need some strategy. What to do... and what not to do... Who to link too and who not too.

I am trying to sell $10 designer like sunglasses on the Internet. See site: http://www.glamourshades.com

I have sent out around 80 requests for links. I added the sites before asking. See link page: http://www.glamourshades.com/partners.htm . I also customized the link request email keeping it short and sweet.

My site launched in August. I am still tryng to identify my target market. It has been hard because sunglasses seem to appeal to a wide range of demographics. However, I have identified one market: college kids. What keywords should I use with Arelis's link partner search. Here are some examples I have tried. I figure college kids like music so... mp3. I put the results under hobbies/music. Colleges have clubs for every kid of sport, you have to have sunglasses to go snowboarding... snowboard clubs. hobbies/snowboarding clubs. Boy are those web sites weak. But they could bring targeted traffic. Is my thinking warped or am I on the right track?

Suggestions? Ideas? Other Target Markets? Cautions? Let's discuss.

Thanks,
glamourshades

I don't think you should put a link to axandra on your links pages. I bet google will eventually nail you for that and not let any of those pages count. I'd love to trade links with your sunglasses site.

If you put this text on your links page; I'll put a link to you on mine as well:

Buy <a href="http://www.tvproducts4less.com/sunglasses-blublocker.html">BluBlocker</a> Sunglasses at TV Products 4 Less.

I removed the link to Axandra. I also added your link.

Glamourshades,

There is a new thread going under SEO Tools on Arelis. You should pick up some ideas there.

What I normally start with when building links is look at who is linking to the competition. Usually you can build off of that...you take those sites and then see who they're exchanging links with, etc, etc.

I usually have much better success with this than to just do blind keyword searches.

In the other thread they talk about an Arelis function that pulls up all link info from a specific page, so you can go in and tell it to search competitor links pages.

I've never been a really big fan of the automated method. I looked at it a while ago when I got tired of manually sending a bunch of emails but the quality turned out much lower IMO.

Check this out http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/thread2962.html

Dreamshop's post was dead on the money! :D By digging through your competitors site you will find they people that are linked to them and you know they are willing to exchange links. Your next step is digging through those sites links.

I think you're on the right path targeting college students. Try exchanging links with sites that could compliment you product without competing with it, such as fashion, sporting goods, etc.

You're already doing one thing MUCH better than most people-putting their link up before contacting them. Keep that up & you will definately reap the rewards-just don't forget to take them down if they don't recip ;)

Everyone else-take a look at Glamourshades stuff! I got 3 pair from him and the quality is GREAT and the customer service is even better! Plus the price is more than resonable.

Good luck!

I always do this and I would say I get 50% positive response which was great when I was just starting out. I also know almost alwaysl link to people if they have my site up already, as long as it is a somewhat relevant link.

The latest idea I'm using for finding potential link partners is searching google with this string:

<my keyword> inanchor:links
or
<my keyword> inanchor:resources

I found the tip on this or another SEO forum so I hope I'm not stepping on toes by posting it. :D
