Hi all,
I am sorry if I am sking to many questions or asking them in the wrong place. My next question is about incoming links. I want to be listed highly in google for my keywords: sports forum, gambling forum, andsportsbetting forum. When I search for these terms in google I am no where to be found. The topsite www.addictfantasysports.com has 1420 incoming links so if I do not get this many I will not ever get a good google ranking? Also, there is a page http://www.iis-sports.com that is out of business has nothing but 1 paragraph about closing there site and they are the 5th site listed!!! How is this possible. As always I sincerely appreciate any help. Thanks.

SGA,

regarding your question for 1500 links. The quantity doesn't matter, the more thing that matters is QUALITY. Say if you have a competitor, he bought 2000 PR links from other high PR sites and are off-themed, then he will certainly get a PR boost but it won't help as much in ranking as it would have done if they were THEMED links.

But on the other hand, if you get quality links, you can beat that website easily in backlinks. But links is just one part of SEO. There is lot more to it. ie. On page Optimization, structure etc.

Remember it's not the QUANTITY you are looking for...its the QUALITY that matters.

Regarding on how to find quality link partners. I wrote an tutorial on this couple months ago. It might help you. Here is the link:

Finding Relevant Links Partners (http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=95)

reagarding the iis-sports website. I didn't get a chance to look at it. Will do it sometime later

One more thing, the field you are targetting is quite competitive. Work hard on it.

Sunny

relaxzoolander,
thank you for your input. I am very curious about the site that seems out of business to me but not you? Please, if you have a chance, search google for sports forum , when the search is done the fifth site that comes up on the first page is Mouth Off Sports. If you click on that link you will see the out of business page????? How is it possible that they are ranked so high? Thanks again!

Ok all,
Me again. I have another question if you can believe that! On my website, http://www.securegamingalliance.com I have 4 "boxes" which are titled Us News, World News, Gaming News, and Sports News. In these boxes I add a link to current articles. In the sports box I have links to 4 sports news articles, but if you click on the archives link at the bottom of the box you will see a list of past archived articles. Now my question is...since I update this daily for all four boxes and add current links to articles can these links be of any use to me for increasing my rankings? I am curious because I am adding 8-16 links a day and would like to know if I can use these to increase my websites credibility in Googles eyes? I really appreciate any and all input on this because maybe someone can tell me how to use all these links to my advantage? Thanks again and have a great night all.

Yes they can, you can set up a sitemap/archiving system for lets say each day and link directly to the pages with content. This will keep the pages in the index and provide backlinks to your main navigation links and help with your link pop.

I have a question though, I followed a link and the only unique content I hit from the world new page wa"ORLD NEWS - Palestinians mourn slain Hamas leader - [Sun Apr 18 16:53:23 2004] cnn
GAZA CITY (CNN) -- Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi has been buried in a cemetery near his home in Gaza City, a day after he was killed in an Israeli helicopter strike. more... "

Which is just a snippet from an article including a link to the full article.
Really not enough content for each page and its a poor way to increase your page count. Also your Titles dont even update for your news posts so your not going to get any real traffic benefit from these pages.

You should set it up so that every new page created has its own unique title, just like we do dynamically here at the forum: someone makes a thread, that threads title automatically becomes the pages title this pages title is "incoming links do I need 1500 to compete" which is great because it brings so much traffic that your really not even aware is looking for you, its completely random :-) In fact I was getting traffic from "kylies bum" the other day because of a comment someone made lol.

Anyways to further my post, I think your currently guilty of a duplicate content issue, that small line of text is really the only portion of each of your pages that changes so you might want to do something about that or your competitor will report you as spam once you get to the top

Morgan,
Thanks for your great input. I think I am in trouble now though. I am a very novice html guy and I paid to have my site built. After having it built I realized I needed to do SEO and thought I would try it myself because of the added cost of paying for this service. However, now when you say things like duplicate content and being reported for spam and "Which is just a snippet from an article including a link to the full article.
Really not enough content for each page and its a poor way to increase your page count. Also your Titles dont even update for your news posts so your not going to get any real traffic benefit from these pages." I realize I am in over my head. I do not have any idea how to set up the title dynamically. I really am enjoying learning so much about SEO but it seems like every time I think I take a step forward I am actually going backward? Thanks again and I am going to have to rethink everything and maybe just not mess with any SEO until I can afford to pay a professional as I really do not want to be considered spam. Have a great night.

Your definitly not taking a step backwards my freind asking questions is how we learn. I appologise for using such terms I sometimes forget not everyone has been doing this as long as I have. My main point was that you need to truly have unique and appreciable content on each page, this doesnt take HTML knowlege its takes effort. Even if you cant set up your title dynamically thats ok, hand write it each time you upload a new page. As for the content, you may want to take a larget snippet of the articles your sourcing but also get all that junk off the pages. Your repeating the same

"Sports Forums and Gambling Forums provided by Secure Gaming Alliance are here for you to share information with other sports fans and sports gamblers to help you gain an edge with your sportsbetting and gambling. Our Sports Forums and Gambling Forums are here to allow all sports fans and gamblers a place to share their experiences and knowledge with each other, so click on the forum link at the top right of the page to join in the discussions. Secure Gaming Alliance also offers all its members the internets only guaranteed program to protect sports gamblers' money with online offshore sportsbooks. To learn more about our protection program click on the "about us" link in the upper right corner."

On everypage, along with all the links and text at the bottom so from a search engine standpoint by percentage your pages are very close to the same. Increase the unique content on each page and decrease the repeated content and you will be fine.

Hi SGA - you are VERY welcome!! This is a great place to learn. Never feel bad for asking questions - its great for us all to learn. I have asked loads so far and am still learning! Questions that people may answer for you are questions other people may have - but were maybe afraid to ask!

i originally went to iis-sports.com.
i see that the 'mouth off' site is under this domain also.
a forum...but is now closed.
how can they still rank high?...the power of link text i would imagine.
this site has no pagerank showing however.
i do not think it will stay there for much longer.

interesting aside...
the 'out-of-business' note is signed by a guy named 'webby'.
