Yahoo! Big win from Yahoo directory.

I was very reluctant to spent $299 on the Yahoo directory, but I was desparate for traffic because a frivolous DMCA complaint has shut me down on Google for the past three weeks (coming back up tomorrow).

I hit the directory on the 16th. I've had nearly 1300 clickthroughs in that time, or equivalently a CPC of $.23.

All I can say is WOW. I pay around $.40 on average to the PPC engines, so this has been a gigantic win for me. I never in a million years would have thought $299 would buy me 260 clicks a day for a year.

I can testify that we've had success with the Yahoo! directory. As someone else said earlier, Yahoo! ( search results ) loves Yahoo! directory. In our case, our natural listings are #5-7 for our most sought after KW's.

Do remember that most of that traffic is probably because they give you are little 'NEW' icon and put your new listing at the top of their directory for the first 7 days.

Like you, we had a huge increase, then it tappered off. Now we get only about 10% of our traffic from Yahoo! - but still worth the investment IMO.

What kind of PRs on their link pages?

I heard a while back that Yahoo! is now using java-based links. I can't confirm this, but maybe do a search on seo-guy to learn more.

Just check PR Search and the category has a PR of 5.

the value is going to depend from site to site...some sites it has real value for and many sites it does not.

my opinion is try many of the second tier directories (for their indirect influence on rankings) before trying the yahoo directory
