Real Page Rank I have just written an article on Real Page Rank (http://www.seocompany.ca/pagerank/pr/real-page-rank.php). It looks at the difference between Real PageRank, toolbar PageRank and Google Directory PageRank. With the PR toolbar not being updated for 93 days, many are claiming PageRank is dead. In this article I explain the difference between Real PageRank and the PageRank displayed on the toolbar and in the Directory. Real PageRank that is the heart of Google’s system for ranking web pages is alive and well and has been updated 4 times since the last toolbar update!

bobmutch,

I read your article and am interested to hear more about how you claim that real pagerank has been updated 3 or 4 times. Given the recent circumstances with backlink updates, and how erratic the display of backlinks has been, I find it surprising that you use that as your primary argument in your findings. Could you possibly elaborate a bit more on how you reached your conclusions?

SEO Bob: I have not been able to get very good data on the backlink update history but from what I have been able to find, it was usually before the toolbar update.

That we have had a Real PageRank update since June 22 is a given as the Directory Displayed PR was updated Aug 10th.

As it was Google custom to update the backlinks before they did a toolbar update (I believe the pratice was to do a BL update, a Real PR update and right after that to do a toolbar display update) in the past, I am presuming that they are still doing that. The only thing they are changed is they have not changed the toolbar displayed PR.

Also 4 BL/PR updates in 93 days is not out of line with past history.

"usually" - "I believe" - "I am presuming"

dilligaf: How about "usually" - "I believe" - "I am suggesting." With Google so tight lipped, there really is not any way to test these things. The best we can do is put ideas forth and offer them up to our peers to discuss, discount, agree and make further suggestions.

Or maybe focus on factors that may be evaluated with less subjectivity or... list a disclaimer in any discussion that purports to evaluate PR or utilizes the link command.
