Ok, I have decided to make a plan of action in my SEO work. While I realize it is better to build a true site, and then worry about SEO, I cant help but to think it out the best I can.

So, I am starting with one of my products and building from there. what I would like to know is what is thought of my plan of action.
here is what I devised, just remember I am only working on content for one product line.

Step 1. = I used the keyword sujestion tool, courtest of Digital Point solutions (thank you) and did a search on the main name of my product.
Upon that search , I took a look at the top 5 ways the product keyword was used ( for example- the word Apple, can be used with "green apple", "big apple", and "apple computers") now the term apple can be used with many diffrent things , and thankfully, my real keyword does not.

So I have a basic idea of how its searched for commonly, now I want to use that to my advantage! so I will build a content page, pertaining to the top 3 uses of my keyword.

Step 2. = After a brief few messages answered by SEO "JEDI" BOB, In another forum, I decided to anylyze the top 10 listings for my keywords with a cool little tool called the Search Engine Spider simulator, provided by our own SEO-GUY. I reviewed the top 10 and looking into the density of there content, I found that commonly my chosen keyword (lets say green apples) shows a density report of anywhere from 6.12% to 7.95% commonly on the top 10 listings for green apples.

So I have decided to create content with a nice in between target density range of 7%, of course if it is a little over or under this, I dont think I will try to correct it, because my true goal is to have it all make sense to the average reader, not to a spider.

Step 3. = Now, I did have one more idea, that may help my quest in the SEO of my site, I decided to use the bigest competitor of "green Apples", and that would be the most diabolical hater of all time "Naval Oranges". A quick look up of naval oranges shows it gets allot more searches tan apples regularly. And why not?, with all the rumors of vitamin C being good for you, its easy to see why. So I decided that maybee it would be a good idea to create a page on why green apples are so much better than naval oranges, and maybee an orange lover, looking for oranges, may stop to read my argument. And maybee see the errors of there ways.

OK, so why so long a message? Well to be honest I wanted to hear from the experts, if I am taking the right approach on trying to figure out how to optimize my site.
Please let me know, before I invest in all these apples.

Ridequality,

it sounds like you've been doing a lot of reading on the forums. I honestly get a bit nervious when i hear someone quoting percentages of keyword density - it seems a bit robotic - but i know where you're going with this, and at the end you said that you want to make a site that makes sense for the readers, not the spiders. As long as you keep that in mind, then you should be set.

Your idea about creating content about your competitors is good as well. Building content is the best way to have a site that provides true value - which is typically noticed by the search engines.

One more idea,

why don't you think about creating a forum where people can talk about the different apples and oranges they like. Forums are a great way to create relevent content, and can help to create a sense of community around your site. If you go with vBulletin for example (yes, i know it costs a bit of money, but it's worth it), then you can actually add your shopping cart right into the forum, and integrate it into the threads. Doing so creates an additional location where people might decide to make their purchase from and you might pick up some inadvertent keyword combinations by doing that.

Thanks Bob for the input. And yes I do beleive its more important to give a customer relevant info above anything else, it could keep em comming back for more!

Thanks for the forum info Bob!
I have been thinkin about it from my first idea of my site, I wanted to create a community around my product lines. And I do see it for the future, the biggest concern is that unfortunantly, theres a bunch of smack talk in this field, and I would certainly have to monitor the board constantly.

There's always ways to moderate a forum effeciently. You can do it the way that we do, and have SEO guy look over EVERYTHING as it's posted, or you can do what we're going to eventually have to do, and build a community where you trust some of the members enough to moderate the forum on their own. When you have trusted members doing the work for you, it makes things a lot easier for all. It might be a bit more work at the beginning, but the payoffs are definitely there.
