Hi guys and girls,

I've basically got a hobby website that allows web surfers to rate and review pubs and tell others their views about the pubs they visit.

Basically in search engines other less well developed sites appear above mine, and I think mine deserves more attention! (don't we all? ;-)).

The url is http://www.pubutopia.com

The keywords I target on the pages are:

-pubs
-the pub name
-the town name

SEO attempted:

- meta tages filled in for all pages
- majority of site is static HTML generated every 24hrs
- PPC google ads attempted, but little increase in traffic
- tried to put keywords in URL's to pages
- keywords on pub pages are distributed evenly (see url below)

Here's an example of a URL to one of the pubs pages:

http://www.pubutopia.com/pubs/L/Leighton%20Buzzard/The%20Buckingham%20Arms/index.html

Some of my issues:

- I do not get any decent search engine results in google when people search for 'uk pages only', but they are not too bad for when users search 'the web' - I think this is because google doesn't think my site is UK relevant.

- I don't think that the spaces in the URL's help much (e.g. %20's), and I'm considering removing them totally or replacing the underscores.

- http://www.pubutopia.com/pubs/L/Leighton%20Buzzard/The%20Buckingham%20Arms/index.html - should I replace index.html with the pubs name?

- I'm aware that 'pubs' is not in my domain name, does this really matter? I do own pubspubs.com, but it will be a lot of hassle to change stuff and my site is already indexed and known about so I'm not quite sure that the effort is worth the pay off.

- I think my site should be more geared towards users that are 'trying to find unknown pubs in certain towns', but at the moment this doesn't seem to be happening

Er, is this enough information for you guys to go on? I really am a beginner at all this SEO stuff, but my aim is to get more people to use my site for the benefit of themselves and others.

If you need to ask me more Q's please feel free to do so, and if you feel there are some functions of facilities at my site that would be good (not SEO stuff), then of course I'd be happy to hear them.

Anyways, thanks for reading this post, and any help is greatfully recieved from you experts.

Thanks and regards,

Dale.

Hi Dale, welcome to the forum! First off no, it doesn't really matter if you have pubs in your domain, it can be a bit of help but not much I would go with the one you have, looks great by the way!

First thing I would recommend is that you try to get more backlinks from relevant sites, example would be to do a search for uk pubs, and let them know about your site and ask for a backlink with your keywords in the anchor text, if they put the link on their index page then you could offer them a nice review of their pub if you feel they deserve something like that.

You have lots of backlinks but they're mostly from your site. Anyway that's my two bits for now.

Thanks seokid.

I email 10-20 sites a day about linking to my site, but I feel that this back-linking generation may take some time. ;-)

:o

Maybe I shouldn't ask too much things at once me being a newbie at this site.

One of my main concerns that I'd like some feedback is the directory structure and the meta tages on the pages.

Here's an example:

If people search for pubs in Leighton Buzzard, I want high rankings for this page:

http://www.pubutopia.com/pubs/L/Leighton%20Buzzard/index.html

If people search for the pub 'Buckingham Arms in Leighton Buzzard, I want high rankings for this page:

http://www.pubutopia.com/pubs/L/Leighton%20Buzzard/The%20Buckingham%20Arms/index.html

My concerns:

The %20's in the URLs may not be a good idea
Is the directory structure too deep?
Are the meta tages too short, long, or not constructed well?
Are there too many keywords spread out on each of these pages?

Thanks again,

Regards,

Dale.
