what is link popularity anyway?

Is link popularity just the number of backlinks or does it consist of many factors?

My understanding is that it consists of the number of quality incoming links you have going to your site. Quality is according to page rank.

Link popularity would be just the fact that you have lots of links, regardless of their own popularity. On the net the link popularity is basically to have as many links as you possibly can.

With Google PR will give more value from a page that will itself have lots of links. So you could have 2 times the amount of links I have and still have a lower PR than me because the links I have are from pages that have lots of links pointing to them.

Lots of links are good and will not harm you, but if you have fewer links with a good PR will give you more PR. Anyway, dont relly on 1 link, you can loose it. Go for it and get as many links as possible.

I am thinking about "Link Popularity" as "How many natural links do I have because of my great stuff, members or content or whatsoever.."
