I haven't been able to get rid of this ShopNav thing on my pc.
I went to their site and click on the uninstall thing and that didn't work.
I looked it up online about removing it and followed their instructions.
But, it still won't go away.
It keeps hijacking my browser.
Very irritating.

Anyone ever get this thing?

I've had Ad-aware for awhile. Even upgrade to 6.0 when I couldn't get rid of ShopNav. But, it didn't help.

Nothing seems to get rid of it.

I'd be in love with anyone who could get rid of this thing!

This ill-begotten shopnav has hikjacked my search engine in IE6 on Win XP Pro and it's like the plague!!! It will NOT search the web as well as AltaVista, Google, or a number of other TRUE search engines. This demon is merely a commercial machine. It doesn't search worth a filp - and I never ever installed it.

I can't afford to buy more and more spyward and adware removers CLAIMING they'll get it, HOPING they'll get it, and still keep these devils around.

Thanks for any help!

To manually remove ShopNav from your computer:

Open the registry editor(click Start> Run, and type 'regedit'), and find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. In the list of values on the right pane, delete the 'srng' entry.
Open a DOS command prompt window (from Start->Programs->Accessories) and enter the following commands,

For the IE variant:

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Srng\SearchHook.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Srng\IEHelper.dll"

Or for the SN variant:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Srng\SNHelper.dll"

Restart the machine and delete the 'Srng' folder inside the Program Files folder.
Open the registry editor(Start > Run > regedit) and delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Srng.
Delete the 'words.lst' file in the Windows folder.
Reset your IE search settings to norma by clicking Internet Options->Programs->Reset Web Settings.

I have adaware, that doesn't work. I opened the registry editor under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software....Run but I DON'T have an 'srng' entry, so that does me no good. I've searched the machine for srng, but I can't find it....but ShopNav finds me every time!!! Anyone out there figure out a way to get this $%#@* thing off their computer??

I know, I still have it also. Nothing works.
I've seen the instructions that SEO Guy put up before online, but it doesn't work.
I don't have any Srng showing up at all. It must really be hidden.

I have tried Spysweeper and SpyBot. I tried ShopNav's uninstaller programs, they don't work. I tried the manual uninstall instructions but those registry keys and files are not on my computer. I have emailed ShopNav three times (my last email was a little nasty) and of course no reply. Here is their whois info BTW:
Organization:

I can't beleive this is that much trouble to uninstall.
:fuct:

If anyone has any idea about how to get rid of ShopNav please let me know. Thanks :D

This is really irritating.
Anytime a page is not there (wrong url or such) the stupid ShopNav comes up. And, it gives me problems trying to type in a new url in the address bar.

Please, if anyone learns how to get rid of this send me an email.
Thank you.

Hello everyone.
I think I have some good news for you on how to get rid of the ShopNav spyware / program ? thing that won't leave. I had it for many months and couldn't get rid of it. I tried everything!

Well, today I've been having trouble getting some web pages come up.
So, as usual the ShopNav was popping up because the web page I wanted wasn't there.

Well, I had tightened my security on my firewall and turned all my cookie settings to prompt.

As the stupid ShopNav page loaded it asked me to accept a cookie from searchcentrix.com . What's that I thought. So, I visited their website.
They have a page about uninstalling their software (they don't list ShopNav)
Basically, they just tell you to go to Control Panel and then to Add/Remove Programs. Then, remove the following programs.

Well, wouldn't you know I had one of their program files listed.

It is called GSIM. REMOVE THIS PROGRAM !

From looking at the title of the program I had no idea what it was.
I then Removed the program as suggested by their web site.

Then, I restarted my computer. Just to be absolutely sure. :)

Well, guess what?
I no longer get that annoying ShopNav webpage showing when a web page doesn't exist.

The only thing I should mention is that it did change my browser option.
If you go under Tools - Advanced Options. I had put don't search using the toolbar. So, I changed this to display the results in a regular window.

It works! At least so far. ShopNav is no longer appearing in my browser !

Yippee! Ding, Dong, the ugly program is gone.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

According to searchcentrix:

WinDirect - Go to your computer’s "Control Panel" and open the "Add or Remove Programs", click on "Change or Remove Programs", clicking on the program called "WinDirect"**, and clicking the "Remove" button to remove the program. ** Please note that this program may be labeled as either "GSIM" or "GSIM Uninstaller" in your Control Panel.

WinDirect - Our way of helping you not get lost as you search the web. In case you misspell a URL or a page doesn’t exist that you are looking for, our WinDirect application is there to help. Utilizing contextual based technology, WinDirect will provide you with results based on what you are searching for and additional categories that may be useful in your search.

What a bunch of crap. If ShopNav is part of their program they should put that on their web site. If it's not how did it just happen to delete that program?

Good Luck!

I'm glad you got rid of ShopNav but there is an easier way.

You can download and run Ad-Aware. Right now it's the most popular download at download.com.There free version is all you need:
http://www.download.com/Ad-aware/3000-8022_4-10214379.html?tag=pop

ShopNav is not spyware or adware, it's a search hijacker which Ad-Aware is the best at getting rid of. Other programs like SpyBot and SpySweeper didn't work for me.

Hi.
I have Ad-aware 6.0.
I had the earlier versions for over a year.
It never got rid of ShopNav for me.

Before I ran Ad-Aware and got rid of ShopNav I sent them an email -- about a week later they replied with:

The ShopNav is not spyware. The ShopNav does not change your homepage, label web pages with our logo, redirect search queries or web pages, nor does it function as an ad-server. If you are running into these types of issues or experiencing performance problems you may want to research, run and install a spyware application such as SpywareNuker. Or you can read about spyware on websites such as Spywareinfo. ShopNav is part of a bundle enhancement that is included in the software that the user has willingly downloaded and its terms and installation are clearly stated in the end-user license agreement, when downloading their product. If you have a grievance or complaint, please contact the software bundlers directly. The bundler providers partner with us to earn revenue for giving away their software for free.

However, if you think you have our software installed and would like to remove it, please click the link and follow the directions on the page. To uninstall ShopNav click here. If you continue to have the same problems, please send us a screenshot of the problem. If we can provide you with more information, we will forward it to you.

Thank you,

admin@shopnav.com

I never tried SpywareNuker as they suggested because I'd already got rid of it. The support guys for SpySweeper told me their free version would not get rid of ShopNav but the full version ($29.95) would. I didn't know what to make of that.

Anyway... I'm glad we're both ShopNav free now. :D

I did have the SRNG directory, and following soe guys thread did remove it for me. However I have another machine that also has the problem, but there is no SRNG folder that I can see even when viewing hidden files.
It does however have Sentry installed, so I wonder if shopnav has piggy backed some other install here.

Thanks it was GSIM on the other machine.

I can imagine, I have had it affect my browsing for many months, but not that badly so I lived with it, but today staff of mine started to complain about it, so I thought it was time to go digging and get it sorted.

Thanks again for posting.

I wish the company goes up in flames that created shopnav. What a bunch of basterds. And that goes to anybody who creates a program that is this hard to delete. I have treid everything that is said on this page and more. I have tried 7 remove ad ware programs on top of all this also. I have no GSIM. Nothing. Someone please help me. And shopnav I promise you, we will remember what you have done to us and pay back will be so sweet.

You should use Spybot Search & Destroy, it has an immunize feature to prevent you being infected in the future.

Has anyone tried to call every 15 seconds for several hours, fax constantly for an entire day. I have used this on unwanted faxes and it has worked. They agravate us, we aggravte them. i enjoyed aggravating them. Get as many phone and fax #'s as we can get, post them and just ruin their " business" as they have aggravated our lives with the shopnav garbage.

I had an issue like this with the @lexa toolbar, it just didn't want to go away, ever! Even a deep search (by hand) through the registry didn't work. One program did, spybot search and destroy, Now I have it set up to block everything from sites trying to hand "free programs" out...

I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy, which worked for getting rid of shopnav.

Adaware did not work for me, so if adaware fails for you too, try Spybot.

I had the same problem and found a downloadable (free 15 day trial) removal program from:

http://www.bulletproofsoft.com/

You download the 15 day trial version- It is not fully functionable however after you install it select the " Start Full Hijack Scan"

you will then see some of the Shopnav stuff... select fix, you are done...

No more Shopnav!
