How will the new MSN deal with the paid listings for PPC?? Will they use Overture??

Just wondering and have no idea :D

I think it is a natural progression for them to move to their own PPC with thier own search, it will likely be something like adwards - thoughts?

It seems like they will stick with Overture for a while and maybe try and switch to self-made app later.

IMHO, for now their main struggle should be the stabilization of the core SE.

I read an article sometime last year about how microsoft was developing their own PPC program and will get rid of overture. I wish I still had the article. Anyhow for the results they were going to place ppc on top like it is now, then below the ppc they would have 1 or 2 links of sites that human editors recommend, then the organic links below that. The rest of the ppc would flow along the right border.

I have read an article that says that MSN -the new one- is going to use only organic listings..I mean, no more Yahoo! paid or sponsored results.
I will try to find out this article....

I doubt it Carlos. I expect MSN are working on their own PPC model to replace Overture.

I think you are closer on that one sem - MSN would never do away with paid listings you are talking about close to billions of dollars over not that large of a term - MSN say no to $$$$$$$$ that will be the day!

they already have their own ads and they take place above overture results. search for something like this .... http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?FORM=MSNH&q=red%20sox%20tickets

right click the first ad and view it's properties .... it's msn.

good for them... why give overture a % of your rev when you own the traffic? it seems logical they they would create a new system.

ps - if anyone wants info on how to get their site there as well, let me know. ;)

Hi Guys;

This is an article related with the new MSN & the paid listings...

It reads something like this:

"MSN's decision to drop the use of paid inclusion listings served and sold through Yahoo! has been construed by some as an attempt to appease consumers. Denise Garcia, media research director at GartnerG2, sees it as part of an ongoing trend among search engines "to re-establish trust with users" by dropping paid inclusion listings."

The article was from July ...4 months ago.

nah, i don't think that's the case at all.

ppc = revenue, search needs revenue to serve results and keep investors from suicide.

it seems they based this article on the tech preview?

Paid inclusions are paying for URLs to be included in the organic results. Their sponsored results are still going to be provided by Overture for now and....

MSN has appointed Overture to supply the sponsored search results on its US, Canadian, European and Asian websites, until the end of June 2006.

oh ok, i'm sorry... was thinking 2 differernt things. paid inclusion is a scam and any decent search engine shouldn't do it... people want unbiased results.

isn't this killed altavista if we can all remember? not doing that is what BUILT google IMO.

someone ( almost said "we" ;) ) should start a grassroots campaign, informing users that the tainted search results (from the overture wh****) they recieve aren't really the best results and ommit many worthwhile sites ... all because the engine they use is a 'ho!
