Yes, I admit it, on my first web site I tried using doorway pages, with a measure of success. I was new to SEO then. I no longer use them.

However, about a month ago all x-hundred of the doorway pages disappeared from Google's results. It didn't matter much traffic-wise since I had moved away from that, but it was enough for me to notice.

Has Google discovered a way to filter doorway pages?

Was there any duplicate content on the pages at all? If there was then they would have been removed for that.

But how google know duplicate content in two or more web sites?

Yeah, there was some duplicate content. But the duplicate content filter kicked in a long time ago, and this just happened a month ago.

HHmmm maybe they have a doorway filter now. It's really hard to say, i've noticed also that some people's directories for link partners are not getting cached in google either, even when they are linked from decent PR index pages.

What % of duplicate content does google consider the 2 pages to be duplicate?

If you have pages that are already indexed and are on the same site and you want to know if they trigger the duplicate filter, try this:

Search using site:www yoursite com +keyword present on both pages

If you get to the last SERP and you get "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the xx already displayed." you have some duplicate content.

Record the pages returned by the search, then "repeat the search with the omitted results included." Compare the results and you will find the pages that trigger the filter. Change the content on these pages to avoid the filter in the future.

If you can figure out which two pages are causing the filter (original: not filtered and duplicate: filtered), submit them to the Similar Page Checker http://www.webconfs.com/similar-page-checker.php.

Report your percent similar results back here so we all can gain insite on what triggers the duplicate content filter.

Well, as for my old doorway pages, I can guarantee you that they are a good 50-60% the same, even without running them through a filter. The thing that puzzels me is that Google has been filtering duplicate pages for a long time now, and my doorway pages got crawled regularly, but Google just recently decided to act on those duplications by removing them from the results. That's the part I don't get.
