Congratulations Zoolander! :D

It's interesting to compare the "nigritude ultramarine" and the "telendro" (Spanish) competitions. In both of them, the domains with the keywords in them ranked first obviously because no links have been counted for those pages yet.

Also, there are now 60.000 results for "telendro" (the contest started on April 26th) and I can't wait to see how many results there will be for "nigritude ultramarine" (although I'm almost certain there will be a lot more).

Oh! and I don't know if you noticed the SERPs winner 2nd

The link to the nigritude site at footer of these forums is not the exact term as per the competition, it says "Nigratude Ultra Marine" instead of the actual "Nigritude Ultramarine"...is that to cover Google's stemming? :D

24 hours later, and you have already moved up 4 to #16.

Google toolbar won't show backlink to you, but I recently added a few that I suspect are not in yet. How long do you have before it ends?

I wonder if I get a consolation prize for being number 1 for "nigritudeultramarine"

not bad for just throwing up a page in 20 minutes and not doing anything after that.

Very lame....
That's why I decided not to put anything into it besides the 8 bucks for nigritudeultramarine.org and a 20 minute website. Not to mention, why waste SEO resources on an ipod when you could put forth the effort into something that actually generates revenue.

Rz, see we are causing trouble already.

The safe way is to not to risk fame or fortune. This contest is about fame... screw the fortune. I would rather compete than complain from the sidelines. Armchair athletes, generals, politicians and SEO'rs always criticize without participating.

:s&m:[/QUOTE]

You know how sometimes a thought crosses your mind that just should'nt?

I had a situation that involved redirects, and for some reason I though of rz's contest.

Here is a scenerio that could be funny if it is just a contest amoung friends and not a serious contest (or against the rules of the contest).

I was remembering looking a results on google in response to a post from rz. Some of the top pages were asking for people to make pages linking to them about the term Nigritude Ultramarine. They indicated they would be linking back to these pages right away.

Now, here is the evil though I had. What if someone made numerous pages from many different domains pointing to each of the top x number sites for that term in google and submitted them to each of those sites.

Kinda nice and helpful huh?

But, now that all these pages are made, quite predictably, extreme boredom sets in. What to do, shall we make more pages? Naw, been there, done that.

Perhaps it is time to test how google handles 301 redirects and link pop.

If there were enough sites that ultimately contributed to the new redirected page (perhaps one like zl's), it could also become an interesting test on becoming an authority site or other such silly thing.

Like I said, sometimes a thought can cross your mind that just should'nt.

seo guy
05-31-2004, 01:00 AM
My thoughts on that is its taking the long way to link pop. IF you made 100 sites all trying to get links for Nigritude Ultramarine and then waiting for the links to build up, then 301 redirected all hte URL's to the main, then it would be like 3-4 months. You spent some time building each domain and in the end you just ended up with backlinks that's all a 301 redirect does is tell the SE that a page has permanently moved and give credit to the right page for backlinks. So it would be more beneficial to spend the time making the spam sites just trying to get backlinks for 1 main site, thats just my opinion.

Speaking of that though, subdomains are considered unique in Google's Eyes right? So couldnt you build a bunch of subs and link to them in your footer, build up thier PR and then 301 redirect them back to the main page? Hmmm it would be like the main page linking to itself over and over again yet getting credit for all of them Muahahahhahahahhah

I dont know if this would work but its funny the shit you think up at 2 am. Robert way to think like an SEO my friend, these kinds of posts are what make worth living!

PS I just made you a senior member you can now access the link exchange forum

Robert
05-31-2004, 01:28 AM
Hi Seoguy,

Thanks for the upgrade and access to the links forum. I agree that the way you state it would be an easier way to get the links, but if it was a competition with friends, it would be pretty funny to show them that they each had a couple dozen links on their site pointing to yours. :p

Speaking of sub domain links, they can really do wonders.

I started a free real estate site that allows searching and listing (back in 1994 when web pages other web pages didn't "do" anything) and was working to get more traffic.

At the time, most SE's would limit the number of pages from any particular site to a few hundred at the most. Well, I wanted to make a page for each and every city, town and unincorporated area in the US.

So, with a little trial and error, I ended up getting a domain for the state, and then use sub domains for each county, city, town, etc. It took quite awhile, and I had to build programs just to make the files to add them into dns, and make individual web server hosts for each, because the the time to enter them.

Well, to make a long story short, in very short time, I was getting about 60,000 unique visits and dozens or realty leads a day from just a few states.

Sadly, google is no longer impressed with the pages, and I get no traffic from them at all. In making these pages, I made a program that would randomly produce valid and approperate, but different page titles, descriptions, links, and insert local content specific to that location. This insured that even with hundreds of thousands of pages there were never any duplicate pages. Unfortunatly after an update to the program failed to add the unique information and google dropped the pages.

At least I think that is what happened, I also never added back links to any of the supporting pages which could also be the problem.

Today just three or four states I have left up still produce about 4,500 visitors/day. (and quite a few leads but I just don't have time to sell the program now, and an arraingement with someone else to sell it didn't work out)

But anyway, I have seen what sub domains can do, and they are a great free resource that can really be a benefit.

Even today while google dislikes or at least igones me, and I have not done any SEO, AV shows 5164 links, and Hotbot 5290. (I was going to link to zl's page with this site also, but can't help with google, sorry zl.)

And, I have been tinkering with a few new programs. :o

the #2 page has 663. [pr6] [5300 pages indexed]
the #3 page has 96. [pr5] [91 pages indexed]

it will be very interesting to see the new pageranks in the next day or so.
