View Full Version : MSN Beta getting there
12-01-2004, 07:00 PM
It looks like MSN is fixing some of the problems with the new search engine. I also noticed they have added, highlighting the search terms as well as tweaked the results again, slightly.
IMO, the SERPS are getting better but....
Either there is too much weight based on any link, including site-wide
They give extra weight to links on pages that are more important (ie. pages that would be high PR in Google)

it'll take awhle to shake out the bugs and build it up - I wish there were some tracking tools for msn
msn beta... very nice... serps are better and better

Just checked the MSN beta serps for my keywords. Until yesterday I was ranked #1 for most, today I'm back to the same rankings as the current MSN SE. Did this happen to anyone else?

HMiller, for some reason MSN Beta is showing Inktomi data...earlier reports showed beta data live on MSN in spotty locations -- it is early; expect change back and forth until the beta results are live everywhere.

It's back to normal now (beta showing beta, MSN old showing Inktomi garbage)

THe NEW MSN is just like good ols google. On page optimization + Back links = top SERPS. From the begining of Beta MSN ALL my sites are #1 ;]. Just Can't wait for msn to switch....
Oddly enough for some product searches a lot of personal sites are returned above the retail ones. It will take a while to sort out the problems with it, its always an ongoing process, even years down the line. I expect results to change again, and I also think that all regions not being included as yet will alter results. MSN SE results are totally different from G's.

I'm seeing very mixed results for products generated dynamically. Sometimes they are right there in the top ten, and other times they are outranked by general content pages.

Now I even like it more! I'm number one for my very very competitive keyword. :D
Now I just need Google to let my links out of the box. (not asking too much, hehe)

Thanks seo guy, I'll take any number one I can get even if its a beta... LOL
I even rank for the word "medical" on the 2nd page out of 127,041,331 .
But most of that traffic wouldn't be that targeted! It's still nice to see. Well almost everthing I learned about SEO was from here. ;)

I just checked out the MSN Beta for the keyword "family history".
Holy cow, my site is number 2 out of 81,176,971.
Now , I just have to wish for MSN Beta to go live on MSN for real with the same results.

Yes, but your competition really knows what they are doing!
12-04-2004, 04:13 AM
Melanie, congrats, and the good thing is that your topic is perfect for MSN. I have a broad mix of sites and in every case, I can divide them down a line - techy sites - people use Google to search for them; family type sites - people use MSN and Yahoo (about equally) to search for them. Very good chance you will get a good amount of traffic from MSN for your topic. Way to go!

Cygnus - 38,176,400 for "easy auto" www.easyautopart.com
However, I will be the first to admit that I don't care too much about the number of sites, but rather the number of searches. That phrase in particular isn't very competitive. When I get to #1 for "auto part", in the live MSN results, there will be cause for celebration.
