I was approached to exchange links with several sites that originate from the same domain. Will they all count?

eg: usa.same-domain.com - europe.same-domain.com - canada.same-domain.com etc. Thanks

Each link counts as backlinks even if it's from same domain.

How does one know if a link directory has the stigma of being banned or set up as a farm? I was just checking out the extensive directory at your site http://www.onlinemarts.com. Looks legit, but raised the question in my mind.

Are there some sites or a tool that lists banned sites?

umm not a tool that I know of however a quick way to check is find a link if you can that has existed for at least 2 months, if does not show in the backlinks of the site it links to its cause for allarm. Mind you if its less then a PR 4 page then it wouldnt show up as well, but lets hope you get nothing but PR 4 + pages :)

yes, they are being counted and will be. i have thinking and i believe that in future google will update its algo in such a way that if he finds same volume of links in the same place of each page of that web site, he can do penality, as just below for example

Thanks for the replies. Would it be reasonable to assume then, that if I had a link from site1.domain.com and site2.domain.com that it would be registered as two links from domain.com as opposed to two individual links?

Hey Dilli,

I believe that you'll get credit for the two links definitely. It's based off of pages not site so much. However, you are doubly covered because the two pages are different subdomains which google treats as if they were from different domains anyway (feel free to correct me if wrong guys).

Cecil: >>two pages are different subdomains which google treats as if they were from different domains anyway << That's rather what I'd hoped for. Thanks

I think you can waste a lot of space in ya links page; with companies with a semingly high pr in their index having a big fat 0 in their links pages (or the one they put you on); so there's no point in having them is there ? I have a load of such sites in my links page essentially pretty useless. In some ways smaller pr sites with say 4/5 with basic layout and one decently ranked links page seems to be a better deal...Whats your guys thoughts

I have to agree Sparko, personally I would much rather have a few great UNIQUE backlinks that are relevant then to have 25 crappy "who knows if it's doing anything for me" type back links. If your links page is full of garbage, all you'll get in return is garbage.

You should get two links from these sub domains.

A lot of the web sites currently do something similar.
Look at the bottom of the current page that we are on. The links are on all the pages.
