I really don't understand why people are so bent upon increasing their PR. PR is outdated and if it is not as of yet, it will soon be outdated as google is trying to bring a major change to its algorithm. Links should be exchanged to gain relevant exposure and traffic. Exchanging links based on PR will only give rise to junk on the internet as any junky site can get a PR!! Big Deal

Maybe... but it's probably still better for googlebot crawling, to have your link on a good PR page.

Example : Having your link on a higher PR page will probably increase googlebot visits to your site... very, very useful if your site is still new(ish)

My understanding is that Google PR is to show how important Google thinks the site is. You will notice that stes that have been around for awhile have a higher PR. Big trusted sites like CNN have high PR. Naturally a link from a site like that will be tons more valuable.

PR is important but too many people are raving over it.
I like to think getting PR as a natural step, rather than forced approach.

So I am trying to "naturally" build my PR up to a 10. ;)

Is it important for a site to rank higher to get top ten listings in google? If so then How to increase Page Rank Which is only 1 in google tool bar.

From what I have read, your PR will naturally increase as you build up your incomming links. Get more quality back links to your site and your PR will go up. You will also see improvements in the serps if your pages are well optomized.

I don't know if this is the way to go about it. But I started a site guitarresources.net about a year ago. And I got my first pagerank of 3/10 just by getting some site awards. The awards that I got were

Golden Web Awards: http://www.goldenwebawards.com/officialawardwinner.shtml
DesignFirms award: http://www.designfirms.org/awards/
World Web Award: http://www.artspace2000.com/name_search/web_award.htm

Those sites review your site and if they think that it is good they give you this "award". But the big advantage here is that they list the winners on their websites WITH a static link, so this causes a PR increase. Google scans these pages very often. That is how I got a PR3 just a few weeks after starting the site

The downside, however, is that most require that you place their link on your home page. So you get an internal page link for a home page link. As your site grows the value they get out of that exchange is tremendous.

Isn't link popularity one of the most important aspects of getting a good SERPS position?
