I am new to the SEO forum. I see that you guys will critique sites.

Could you have a look at mine? I paid for this service and now I do not know how ot make changes so if you suggest some, maybe you could include a short instruction on how... for example I do not know how ot change text to heading text. Bad huh! But my web developer has not got me where I need to be so I am relying on you guys to help me do it myself!

My site is http://www.nev-corp.com and obviously I am a professional incorporator. My name is in my title and I know that is not necessary since it is not a Keyword. How do I remove?

Any help would be great!

Hi Katland, for your title you will need to open up the index page in some kind of website editing software, such as Macromedia Dreamweaver though it can also be done in notepade as long as you select all types of files when opening your index page. In the code of the index file you will see <TITLE>Senior management inc blah blah blah</TITLE> change the text to what ever you want, I recommend using your keyword at the begining of your title. Then you would have to save the file, and then upload it. I'm not sure on your internet experience but let us know if you have questions about uploading and things like that.

Then you would need to start working on getting links from other sites with your keywords as the underlined part or Anchor Text (www.seo-guy.com). This is just a start but I hope it helps, I'm sure you'll find all the help you need here!

You may need to read up a little on basic HTML, it would make your life a little easier :)

Firstly, you will need to be able to access and modify the source code, you can use a basic text editor (notepad) or a tool like Frontpage etc. Now that you can access your code, changing the title is as simple as finding the title tag in the <HEAD> section at the top of the page, and changing the text in between the <TITLE></TITLE> tags.

For Heading text, you simply put your desired text in between the heading tags like this:

<H1>Heading 1 Here</H1>
<H2>Heading 2 Here</H2>
<H3>Heading 3 Here</H3>

Now, you can do a lot to modifiy the look of the heading tags using CSS but thats way beyond the scope of this for now.

My advice would be to learn some basic HTML or find a reliable web designer to do it for you. Then when you ask questions here you can get simple answers to communicate back to your designer for implementation.

Even if people here had time to provide Web Design 101 tips, I think you would be better getting the basics down first.

Thanks a lot! You are right, I need some HTML basic. Is there a good source on the internet or an HTML for dummies? I am a quick study.

And, I can use my current mods team at the web developer that designed the site, then I can forward your suggestions to them. So keep the suggestions coming.

I so appreciate it. And if you ever need advice on business consulting/services issues, contact me at info@nev-corp.com. I would be happy to reciprocate.

Hi guys, it me again

If a professional web team built my site, can I still access it? I have frontpage and notepad. But I cannot seem to find the website files. Of course, I have no idea if I am even lookin in the right place.

I do have matrix online builder supplied by my web designer. Is that the only place I can make changes?

Any help as always is appreciated.

Do you have a copy of the site on your machine? Regardless, you'll need an FTP program (to load, download files from the server). Personally I still use Cute FTP.

Regarding on-line changes, doesn't front page allow you to log-in to the server and update?

Used to, but now I use FTPLE it's free and easy to use.
Had bugs with CuteFTP on free hosting sites at lycos and had no bug with ftple... I just use this now.

You can find it at www.download.com or there http://www.ipswitch.com/downloads/index.html

I have frontpage loaded but have never used...I log in to the Matrix Online Builder and there I can make changes to the text on my site. But, I cannot make changes to the source code. I have to call the web team to do that. Thanks for the lead on learning HTML>

Hi kat - you should be able to get a password to go into your site - just open it in Frontpage - your full site title - then it will ask for password- put it in and then it should work.

Open Frontpage. Go - file - choose open web
Then at the bottom of the screen it says web name
just enter your full http: address there and it should
load for you. Be careful though cos you are editing
live.

Thanks, you are the first to get me into Frontpage. Now my site is up on Frontpage. but under view, there is not a "source" which is where I went in the past to view (only) my html code. How do I get there from frontpage?

Thanks for all your time.

Okay - so now you can see all your folders? Open your index page or whatever page you need to edit - you'll see your page on the right hand window - at the bottom you will see normal (which is what you are looking at) then there is a tab for html - that is where you can go in and change. Hope it helps some

Before you go through this you neen to contact whoever built your site and get the ftp user and pass, also are you not hosting your own site? Who is your web hosting company? They should be able to give you all the info

Thank you both soo much for all your help. I have learned that our website developer, whom i think is also our "host", is responsible for making these types of changes. I only have basic content editting abilities.

So, I so appreciate all your input. I have forwarded all suggestions to these guys and they are supposed to be making the changes soon.
