Ok, heres a thought I have been trying to get the finall word on. I have an auto related site, and its pretty difficult to sort out all the products because of all the various applications. So heres a sample:

I sell the widget shocks.
widget shocks are sold in the "FRONT pairs, REAR pairs, and SETS of 4.
(all 3 would be links to there propper pages)
And on there propper pages (all 3 ) you will find the fun part,
(all the manufacturers names(
acura widgets, bmw widgets, ford widgets ......and so on (abouyt 20 diff)
and after you select one of the "veh. make" choices, your hit with the joy of choosing what the "veh model" widget is, like so-
1999 honda civic widgets, 1985 honda accord widgets,1997 honda prelude widget.....

So my question is this, for SEO purposes, how would you lay this out? theres going to be allot of page links to sections and products, So how should they be named? of course I could also post picture logos of the manufacturers vehichles, instead of the text links, it would be cleaner.

One last add on. from n seo standpoint is it better to have the name of a product in your internal hyperlinks like"

widget shocks> front widget shocks > acura front widget shocks> 1999 to 2001 acura integra front widget shocks

It can make a hyperlink really long...

Sorry I have so many questions and this post is so long, but if your reading this line, than you read my post , and I say THANK YOU. 8-|

RideQ, My dad used to say opinions are like #$$holes, everybodies got one... here's mine.

You may want to do a little keyword research before deciding. If you decide you can be competitive (and that there's enough searches to justify it) for Acura Widget Shocks then go with text links. It would seem, however, that if there was much competition you'd have to get some outside links pointing to those pages as well. And then do you see customers ordering on-line from anywhere (discount warehouse) or are your customers primarily in your area?

My prejudice would be to go with what makes the most sense to vistors.

It may make more sense if I could see the page layout (Auto Parts > Shocks > Edsel > Model # or whatever) Is the page out there?

RideQ,

for your site, I would really recommend using a true breadcrumb navigation method, so that the user can get to the appropriate page by whatever path necessary. one of the best examples i've ever seen of true breadcrumbs is at www.arizonatools.com. They're a hardware site and use posted variables to pass the source path throughout the site. This means that 1995 Acura Integra Widget Shocks can be found by following the links for widget shocks, 1995 car parts, acura parts, integra parts, or any of the other various permutations.

It's a bit more work to get loaded, but should provide you with great results in the long run (and is a more scalable architecture).

I've spoken to the guys that worked on the arizonatools site and Google only picks up one path to the files, and they are not penalized for duplicate content in any way, as they shouldn't be.

Just my 2 cents
