My Site: www.rpmotor.com

Target Keywords: Motorcycle Helmets

We are VERY new to SEO, and would whatever help we can get.

So far we have did the meta and title tags. I have spent a lot of time researching, but lots of sites (possibly outdated sites) are giving me mixxed messages on what to do and what is important.

In the end, I felt it would be easier for me if i just posted my site here to see what obvious changes I would need in terms of SEO as well as look and feel.

Also a quick question if anyone can answer. www.rpmotor.com redirects to our main page which is www.rpmotor.com/catalog/index.php (which has all the meta and title tags). When submitting does it matter if i submit www.rpmotor.com or should i submit www.rpmotor.com/catalog/.

Thanks

Jeff

Okay...I just wrote a cool post and this system lost it. Arg I hate that.

Quick recap...

Check www.overture.com free advertiser tools. Use the keyword suggestion tool to come up with stats on what the best keyword phrases are for your products.

"Motorcycle Helmet" is the often used, but you'll have better success drilling down to more specific terms like the ones below.

Overture
motorcycle helmet 2,446.4 /day
arai motorcycle helmet 80.4 /day
discount motorcycle helmet 75.6 /day
custom motorcycle helmet 45.6 /day
bell motorcycle helmet 36.5 /day
nolan motorcycle helmet 35.2 /day
cheap motorcycle helmet 33.5 /day
motorcycle helmet decals 27.7 /day
motorcycle half helmet 22.3 /day
motorcycle helmet sale 20.7 /day
carbon fiber motorcycle helmet 17.0 /day

For on-site optimization focus on your page titles, text headers, etc. Choose one or two terms for each page and put the primary one first in your page title. If you have to include your company name, put it last. A really targeted title would be "Discount Motorcycle Helmets by RPMotor".

Be sure to use that same keyword phrase in your text and page headers as well.

Next step is start getting backlinks from other sites using that same descriptive keyword phrase. YOu don't need a lot of links, just good ones. Sites that are related to yours with high pagerank.

Also...you could run into problems getting your product pages indexed. One because you have a redirect from your main domain, and also because you're using a php setup with 'id' sessions in the url for products. It would be better to not use a redirect [why not create a cool incoming home page?], and adjust your database to create product urls with keywords in them [ie: /catalog/fullfacehelmet.php].

You'll need to chat with you designer/programmer to get that done.

Hope this helps!
