I see a big update in yahoo today. New sites coming up and getting ranked. Can you see too ?

Yeah.... after a month that the new site has been up, they've updated the cached homepage.... :D

Cheers,
Paz.

Hmm, so Yahoo has moved more to a monthly update...this would be much better than their past two years of update every blue moon method.

Their updates are pretty slight; they don't have so much of an update feel as an incorporation of updated data feel.

This makes me wonder if the penalties begin to fall off after a certain period during the updates -- I know of one of my sites that was penalized (filled out reinclusion form in early Feb); it'd make the most logical sense to remove the penalties on the monthly updates...anyone have a previously penalized site pop back in today?

It's time to love Yahoo again. :) LOL

I have hit #1 for a very competitive keyword for one of my sites. I have numerous #2's & #3's for most of KW's.

THIS IS A BIG YAHOO UPDATE...... and I love it.

I thought I would come to the forum to say that there was a big update and that I had done really well, and that Yahoo is now great after I had slated it before.

Turns out many of you have got there first!

Yahoo was being a real pain regarding my site, but now it seems to have come good. Despite my site being relatively new, i seem to have managed a decent ranking for some keywords, I just hope it stays there!

I will be curious to see the percentages of which engines deliver traffic to some of my sites now.

For some reason, yahoo.co.uk has placed me at #2 for the keyword "pictures" out of 322,000,000 other sites. I wonder how long I will stay there?

Some observations.
It seems that yahoo is only giving you credit for related links coming in and only 1 credit per site so sitewide links don't work anymore.
The reason I know this is I have quite a few sites. My #2 site has 40,000 bl from every place possible. #3 site has 361 bl.
The #1 site has 450 links as bl.
My #3 site is just reciprocal links and no others.

A year ago I signed up for Yahoo site match and consequently was pulled for a lot of small text at the footer of my site <stupid of me>. I withdrew from site match and still have not been showing for Yahoo results. I see my home page is in the index but shows for no searches. I am assuming I am banned and was hoping someone had experienced the same and could point me in the right direction for being reincluded.

I saw a previous post someone mentioned a reinclusion form? Where would I find that? Also, would I not be reincluded for the small text in my header, if someone would not mind looking http://www.virginiamortgagelender.com

I appreciate any input.

Yes, updates were great. I must say, that I owe my good fortunes to all of the contributors on this site. I have learned a lot in a year.

I have to second what CPUcandy said. The yahoo update was great and I could not have done it without all of your help. I just hope I keep getting higher and higher serps

Yes I agree the update was great but I saw some changes this morning and the result is terrible.

Did you manually check or use a tool? I noticed huge drops when I checked with DP but when I checked manually the ranking is still strong.

I checked manually on different datacenters. I saw some irrelevant results first on a simple search then checked my own domains and on one of them (not if it was a domain that I really don't care about 8-| ) I noticed something I haven't seen until now.
It is like my homepage is more or less ignored and given almost no value, with no obvious reason. Most other pages even improved their rankings

Did you ever see anything like this ?

As of now, I did not seem to loose any ground. I moved up slightly in some cases. An update might still be going on, so who knows where the ball will drop.

I see them dropping sites lower with sitewide links, unrelated links.
Sites with pages over optimized. This is only for major keywords.
Some of my sites are #2 and #3 with just a few links and no optimization. My sites with many bl and optimized have dropped lower.

webgreg

Actually I don't think that it is a question of over optimization or sidewide links. First because I don't have sidewide links and I see sites with paid sidewide text links that do even better now. Second when look at the SERP on a certain keyword there are now 2 cloaking pages + 1 spam + 1 automatically content generated + 2 very poor quality (almost no backlinks).
Actually only those who paid their position in the directory did not suffer.

I'd be interested in taking a look at your site and make comparisons to try to find out what they are preparing (which for now is a bit of a mess) if you can send me a PM 8-|

For now i'd say it is related with some issues with the homepage on certain site, weird.

Just a note... yahoo's been pretty good about sending sites AWOL for for 2-3 weeks and then having them pop back up in the original position. (This would be for sites that haven't been sitting at the top forever). Are either of these examples new to those positions in Yahoo SERP's?

yukii

no, its seems to be accross the board, all you need now are links from related sites now. The more the better and you will #1.

Hmmm actually you may be right Dilligaf. First I did not consider this option since it was not applying to the whole site but only to homepage, that the SERP does not look exactly like a rollback but looking more carefully it seems that old irrelevant/cloaking pages are back on top. My site is still pretty new though so having it up and down every 10 days or so is not a surprise but that it applies only to homepages...first time I see that.
Looks like a rollback on ranking of homepages. Anyway no big deal most ohter domains are getting even better.

Did you see any move on your domains, old/new sites?
(This would be for sites that haven't been sitting at the top forever).
YESSS forever !! :eyes:

That's why i asked. I haven't seen any movement on established sites other than marginal improvement across the board around the first. I have noticed that when sites first appear at the top they tend to go missing for awhile and then back. This, for me, seems to cycle a couple of times before they stick at the higher spot.

Yahoo! Launching New Search Index Tonight

The comments are bimodal with some saying "thanks for informing us" and most saying "the new results are worse."

I removed repeated KW text and spammy text from site. Cleaned up the home page. Jumped back up to #1 today. Looks like they have a spam filter. Another Site a competitor of mine had a really spammy home page he was #1,2 for years Thursday he dropped to #18. Spam filter.

Edited...:P

For me it is still the same spammy sites on top, a real mess actually. I'm still trying to figure out what happened exactly, maybe my site was down at the bad time. It's like Y! just forgot to index my homepage and still the rest of the site is doing better everyday! So it can not be a penalty....anyway I never use any spam/trick/link scheme or similar backhat techniques.

Well not a big deal but it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Same here. I'm even seeing redirects, hidden text, doorway pages.. the whole nine yards. I've been pretty disappointed with Yahoo! lately.

Actually I see something weird, when I query Yahoo with site:www.mydomain.com my homepage appears at the very bottom of the list, almost not indexed, no reason - no spam - fine link popularity and related no link scheme etc..!

Some server errors also for some reason..hmm and Slurp goes on eating the site almost 20 times a day!

As anyone seen that already?

Webgreg...I have several sites like that. Yahoo's spam filter is seriously flawed right now. Having dealt with just about every service in the Yahoo family (Overture, Y! Hosting, Y! paid inclusion, My Yahoo, etc) I'm not surprised. The company tried to be everything at once, and as a result succeeded at very little.

While it sucks in the short-term, my feeling is that quality sites will ultimately return, especially once Yahoo sees its users going to MSN at a greater rate (the demographics overlap the most between these two engines).

No consolation in the meantime other than to focus on MSN / Google.

Yeah I agree but still I wonder, if this is spam filter, they better think twice because cloaking pages or rss equalizer sites or nor more than 10 pages sites on top doesn't look serious at all. I'm still not convinced this is the problem for me but we'll see no big deal other pages than the homepage are doing very good.
I also agree with you for MSN, this one will end up being a winner because of Y!' stupidity :)

EDIT: actually i may have found the problem ...and it is with my hosting company !!!!
