How often are the backlinks updated? I have been building for a while but have not seen any increase since like March or some time around their.

Why is google so much tougher to work with then MSN, etc? My site ranks page 1 on MSN and it is off some where in no mans land on google. Any secrets I should know about here?

Why is it when I search using the quotes I will sorta be ranked on google (page 6 or so) but when I don't use the quotes I am no where near even page 6. The pages that rank on page one are the same both ways, what do you think I am doing wrong? or is it just the backlinks?

Thanks a lot.

bcmweb: Last BL update was on Mar 04 and before that Feb 03, Jan 01, Dec 16, Nov 25, Oct 16, Sept 10th. So looks like every month.

We are due for a BL update. I predicted Apr 05 on my Pagerank Update History list.
www.seocompany.ca/pagerank/page-rank-update-list.html (http://www.seocompany.ca/pagerank/page-rank-update-list.html)

Google has been around longer than Yahoo and MSN so they are better at stopping sites that try to do more than rank naturally. Google doesn't want sites that got all the money and can afford lots of links or high PR pages to all be at the top of the SERP. They what good quality sites. So they have made it hard to rank starting off.

When you search with quotes "PageRank Update History List" you get on 47 documents hence it is easy to rank higher if there is only 47 documents competing. Take the quotes off and now we have 50,700 pages and it would be harder to rank.
bcmweb: Google has been around longer than Yahoo and MSN (snip).
Actually, the directory trend really started with Yahoo, and already had search function before 1996 (http://web.archive.org/web/19961020022754/http://www9.yahoo.com/), as did Altavista (http://web.archive.org/web/19961022174810/http://www.altavista.com/), webcrawler, northern light and many others.

MSN already had a search going by December 1998 (http://web.archive.org/web/19981212020929/http://search.msn.com/) which was when Google came out in Beta (http://web.archive.org/web/19981202230410/http://www.google.com/).

Overall in terms of the major engines google is a relative latecomer. But it is much more likely to stick arround longer than the "old" top engines. It is just after spending hours, days, weeks and years trying to get results in Google that it seems like it has been here forever. ;)

Kathy: Thats for pointing that out. I should has said that Google is more advanced than Yahoo and MSN, as Yahoo as around quite a while before Google came on the scene 6 years ago.

Yes, it is quite interesting to see how fast Google took Yahoo down.

Better quality, more aggressive and they started out by listinging to the users of their product. I'll bet they are really controlled by aliens.

I just did a search for "Massachusetts website design" and you're #3, not bad :D

Maybe the backlinks you have on google don't have enough PR juice.
