View Full Version : Who's going to win the cup?

Who do you think is going to win the Stanley Cup in the NHL playoff finals this year? As of right now, the series is tied 2-2 (best of 7), with Calgary winning games 1 and 3, and Tampa Bay winning games 2 and 4.
Kevin 11
06-01-2004, 01:19 AM
Maybe I'm wrong on this, but hasn't the team that knocked Vancouver out of the first round gone on to win the cup everytime in the last 5 or more years???
I'm giving cowtown Calgary the nod...
PS - Vancouver still gave them the toughest series in 2004
Pyrrhonist
06-01-2004, 09:09 AM
I'm not sure about that - but hey, it works for me. If you're right, Calgary still wins. I don't even want to talk about that Vancouver series; i'm still a bit bitter.

Dilli,
I'm starting to become even more sure we're going to see a 7 game series - and a damn good one at that. Flames will win tonight, Tampa, on Friday, and then I wouldn't want to bet on game 7.

SEO Bob, I'll agree it certainly is getting to be a helluva series. I look for some fisticuffs early in the next one. Could be our downfall though (I'm guessing those winters make people meaner) but it's certainly time for it.
My only other prediction is that the flames are dead meat (http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315).
Sorry to hear about your igloo, I'll fish a couple of cubes out of my cocktail if it'll help.
Pyrrhonist
06-02-2004, 04:15 PM
Nah, I'll be all right. You just save that ice cube for LeCavailier's head after Iginla pounds him again.
But it's all good, I'll just sit back with my good, cold, Canadian 5% beer and relax to watch the game. You can sit in Florida with your girlie-drink margarita (or mai tai, coco loco, or whatever it is) and watch Tampa get facewashed into the mushy ice you've got down there.
dilligaf
06-02-2004, 08:26 PM
Vinny needs the ice already and it's got nothing to do with Iginla. I'm thinking Nieminen might use what's left of the igloo. Thanks for the girlie drink compliment (anytime I'm associated with the fairer side I consider it a compliment) but I'm a beer drinker too (got Becks on tap at the house).
While I'm on it.... why's american beer like making love in a canoe?
They're both f%^&'n close to water.
And I guess if I weren't drinking beer, my girlie drink of choice would be sex on the beach. If you'd like I'll send you the recipe... as it's certain Lord Stanley will be a helluva lot closer to the real thing than those in the great white.

I'm guessing you guys got the news up there too... Nieminen suspended for game five at his request, for his own protection. Apparantly he slid a note to the commissioner from the penalty box at the end of game four. They printed a copy of the note today in the times along with a few lightning player responses.

Last night was a good game. Tampa Bay was sluggish looking in the first two periods but picked up their game in the 3rd I thought.
I think if both teams bring their "A" game into game 6 it should be an incredible finish!
I hope Calgary brings some scantilly clad beauties on to scrape the ice too!
Hmm... Dilli's been surprisingly quiet since the game last night. Maybe he's still crying over the loss.
You got that right. Last night was a tough one, not just because of the loss but being outplayed for two periods (if not for the Bulin Wall we should've been down at least two more goals) then deciding to play after getting even only to drop it in OT.
Two in a row, there's a first time for everything, and throughout the playoffs we haven't dropped two in a row so I'm still a believer. I just wish they'd start hitting/hustling before the third period.
Pyrrhonist
06-04-2004, 02:31 PM
We need to combine the canucks with the lightning to make a super team... nucks can only play for the first 2 periods and Tampa can finish off for us. (of course the team would be located in Van, but we'd take the ice bunnies with us)
dilligaf
06-04-2004, 02:36 PM
Sorry Bob, great plan but we wouldn't recognize it as hockey without the ice bunnies. I gotta tell you though, as much as it hurts, I've got a whole new level of respect for Iginla. He really does change the flow just by being out there.

ROFL Dilli,
That was an amazing game, wasn't it? It seemed like both teams were a bit sloppy. Did you see the "save" Kabi made in the third when he swept the puck with his pad? Damn, that looked like a goal to me (in fact, I'm convinced it was over the line). Whatever, the refs didn't call it, and Sutter didn't even complain about it - even he wasn't sure. It was a tough break for sure.

Dilligaf, you have provided such keen observations throughout the series, I wondered what you expected in game seven at the Ice Place.
Examples:
I say somebody forgets to hit St. louis for about 3 minutes.
They did, and he did.
throughout the playoffs we haven't dropped two in a row so I'm still a believer. I just wish they'd start hitting/hustling before the third period.
They came out hustling, and still haven't dropped two in a row.
Trust me, unless they put some serious bodies on his a$$ in the next couple, I won't need any reminders.
They hit Iginla three ways: hard, fast and continually. I wonder if he felt like St. Louis?
BTW, what a great name and an even better avatar.

Dilligas, How kind of you to inquire. SEO-Bob was last seen mopping up the remnants of his winter home so I'll offer my opinion as his is quite a large task.
If SEO-Bob's hybrid Tampouver Lightnucks show up tonight (AKA a team that plays for three periods) and they continue to put bodies on Iginla it'll be a helluva game. In a series where the team scoring first wins, there have been no lead changes and no-one can spell two in a row... either Flames score first and Lightning win 3-2 or the Lightning score first and they win 4-1. If Brad Richards scores everybody can go home early.
Lightning Champions, Marty St. Louis MVP, Brad Richards Con Smythe
But then again... I could be wrong.
