I have been trying to stop asking stupid questions up here, but something has happened which has really got me scratching my head.

I did a Press Release for our Company - well really a little news story that got picked up by the local papers, but more importantly the BBC website at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/3774379.stm

Traffic went up a little over the weekend - but now has crashed right out. Also my Google position for my important phrase 'Nautical Antiques' dropped from 22 to 56! I thought a backlink from the BBC would be just what I needed, but maybe not...

I also scrapped WebPos Gold last week, after the slagging I took here ;) so am back on my own, doing what i can. If anyone has any ideas, let me know!

I dont think you got bumped down because of the BBC links. If that's recent then the backlinks have not even been updated yet.

How old is the site?

we had a full Flash Site up in 2000, but that wasn't SEO'ed - the present HTML version has been up for 18 months.

I have also been working really hard on the links over the last 2 months, I have a good selection of high PR links, but Google only shows 5. I have read however, that you only get shown a selection...

BBC article was on June 4th. It's probably not indexed yet for your PR.

The links that you acquired about 1 month ago probably are not showing in Google BLs yet.

Look for 2 and up to 3 updates before the influence of your backlinks have their full effect. Just continue getting text anchored BL's.
