If you want to request a link exchange, please post the necessary details in the relevant link exchange forum after reviewing the guidelines. Thanks
Regarding getting partners, have you reviewed the relevant threads in this section. There's been a number of very good suggestions.

Before you begin to swap links, your site should be submitted to every directory you can find. You can search for directories by just googling "directory" or keyterm "directory". for example SEO "directory" .
Then after you submitted, you should then begin to exchange links. I found the easiest way to exchange links is to use www dot linkmarket dot net . After you get submitted to all the directories out there you should have about a pagerank of 4, this is after your submission has been reviewed and the directory then updated. Approx. will take 2-3 months before you fully feel the effects. But back to exchangeing links.. linkmarket isnt the only way, you can search for link exchange partners. You can google for MainTerm "link exchange" and MainTerm "reciprocal link" to find additional link exchange partners, MainTerm being what Main category your site would be placed under in a directory, like health, computers, technology, shopping, etc. Sometimes you can even find competitors competeing for your terms that have link exchange programs.
Good Luck :)

Also consider tools like Link Vault (http://www.link-vault.com/?ss=3113) or the digitalpoint coop as a way of getting varied inbound links which distribute the keywords you are likely to use. In directories you are more likely to use just 1 or 2 link texts which doesn't give the search engines much variety.

Hi Patch
I'm in Auckland doing freelance development focussing on the database and SEO side rather than design and pretty stuff. There is a very quiet forum at www.webdeveloper.co.nz and a PHP users group.
If you need any help getting link vault set up just let me know.
What sites do you have - your signature is bare and signatures are important for link building (http://sarahk.pcpropertymanager.com/blog/forum-site-popularity/) - as well as for letting us learn more about you ;)
