I need to have an SSL installed soon. My question is if search engines already indexed some of my site, when the SSL is installed will this change my URL? Will this mess with my search engine postions or anything else?

I'm not exactly sure and don't want to screw anything up.

Thank you!

interesting question. I wonder what the mods know about ths one, since this is the first time I have ever actually thought about the difference between https and http for SEs.

First question I would have is why are you using SSL?

Is it site wide, or just for an order form, etc.?

It will change (or add to) what the SE has, because it uses a different protocol/port and is considered different from a standard http page.

If you are not using it site wide, and just need it for transactions, it should not be a problem.

It may be worth your time to follow this thread (http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/thread1005.html) as well.
