I am the owner of www.hitsbam.com, and currently have a pagerank of 4. I have a few questions.

First of all, is there a limit of too many words in a backlink? For example, one of my backlinks has text "HitsBam.com - Quality Targeted Traffic for Webmasters". Is that too much text for one link?

Also, I am trying to find some websites to exchange links with, especially web hosting, domain registrars, and web design (templates, custom designs, anything with designs), but I only want to exchange with sites with a pagerank of 5+. That is a problem because I only have 4. How do I go about this?

1. Achor text: I would think you would be better served by targeting your most reasonable phrase first and limiting the number of words. eg Quality web traffic, targeted web traffic or whatever.
2. Good luck, you can ask. I don't see what your on about as today's three's are tomorrows fives and from everything I've read one would be better served in having 30 PR-4's than 15 PR-5's and it will likely be more than twice as difficult to get the latter.

Well your site is PR4 but your partners page is PR0... this is more the problem you'll get.
The PR of the site is irrelevant, it's the PR of the page that has the link that counts.
I think you should lower the exchange minimum PR limit bar a little bit.

Jocelyn, look at you doing the research. I'll have a newbie question for you in about 5 min. To me it looks as if its a new page (only a few links, link not hidden from a PR-4 and not indexed) so in two updates it's a 3. As you said it's page to page thing to it'd be a tough sell (even 3's to 5's let alone 0's). But then look at me.... look at my wife, stranger things happen, and I aint complaining. (smiley here)

Devilzfan, If you're looking to keep link pages down and have high quality links (a cool thing) I would suggest:
A. Chill, get that page to 3 and then do a bl/pr check with seo tools (http://www.seo-guy.com/seo-tools/) and send some e-mails. If people see that you value your out-bounds you may be suprised (what I do with someone who refuses to link because of PR differences I give them the option of linking to my links page... it's getting mixed reviews but I wouldn't have had the link otherwise and it only takes a few to really increase the value of my out bounds)
B. Integrate your links into your site and seek to establish a few valuable relationships.

i like you idea about linking to the links page dilligaf. devilzfan, i checked out the links on your page. one thing i would comment on is those partners who are linking to you have you placed on a page with a lot of links. sometimes google will consider the page as a linkfarm, giving it less value. i usually go with any page that is PR4 or higher, but make exceptions if there are very few "links" on the page or it is surrounded by good content. your site topic is tough to compete in.

I see the bulk e-mail button on your home page. Is that why you chose "bam" as part of your site name?

"Bam" is a Scottish slang term, usually prefixed by "wee". I've searched the web but can't find an accurate definition. I can tell you it's not a positive term.

bam: Aberdonian abusive term for non-educated delinquent.
From: http://www.firstfoot.com/php/glossary/phpglossar_0.8/index.php?letter=b

That's the most accurate I've seen, but I like your cheat definition as well.

I'll just hope no one reads the definition.... ;)

Do you guys seriously think the "bam" in our name is going to be a problem?

it's more of an observation than anything. don't take it to heart.

Sorry - I was being a meanie.

As far as I'm aware the word is only used in Scotland and the very north of England, so very few people will make the asociation. Even then the impression it gives is of agressive linking which would probably support your aims anyway.

Ok thanks, it sounds better when you say it like that. When you said it before, I immediately saw my entire website crumbling to the ground because of three letters...I think I am fine now though.. ;)
