OK, we're meant to link out to authority sites - but how do you find them ?

From a previous thread (http://www.seo-guy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=463&highlight=authority), there's also been some discussion on the RE forum (http://www.realestatewebmasters.com/showthread.php?p=1208#post1208).

thanks for the link

I didn't get a final answer so I am unsure

Linking to dmoz seems strange to me because they hardly appear in the search rankings at all

My perception is that "authotity sites" aren't necessarily at the top of the rankings. They are more of an independant resource that may be relied upon by many web sites.

Ex. DMOZ - Specific Section: A good resource to find quality sites on the topic but they're not concerned with serps, the sites not optimized and they're not looking for specific anchor text.

I have seen DMOZ pages coming up on the SERP often.

Thats exactly the point, authority sites dont need to show up in the search engines, everyone already knows about them and just goes there. Thast a good way to tell, what you do is say, "if I was looking for good, non-commercially motivated information about "keyword" what site would I go to" thats usually your authority site.

Should this be an everypage thing or just somewhere in the site?

Thanks for that - that's a really good explanation. Hence your links to W3 etc

I did have dmoz as one of mine but it didn't seem to help me. I've definately got one I'm just thinking of the other one .......
