Interesting. I guess my only thought is that it is an ad hoc ergo propter hoc issue: just because many sites with virtually hosted IPs are ranked low, doesn't mean it is an issue with virtually hosted IPs. It is probably that those with virtually hosted IPs are less likely to be as mature, rich and robust as those that have unique IPs, because of a difference in investment.
