Yahoo and PR

I have a directory listing in Yahoo that has zero page rank. I could move it to one with 3 or 4. is this good idea?

Hi Kevs,

I don't think it's that easy to get a site moved to another category in Yahoo is it? In any case, if it's the best category for the site I'd be inclined to leave it. In any case, it might be a new page that will pick up decent PR on the next toolbar update.

Cheers,
Paz.

KEVS, since TBPR is meaningless you should just leave it there. Do your keywords do well in the SERPS?

thanks guys.
not as well as I want. not nearly as well, hence the post.

Don't I want as many links to me from pages with higher PR? or the PR does not matter? ie Google "sees" the link is from Yahoo and blesses your same regardless or a zero or 6, or no one really knows?

Kevs, yes links will help but you need to understand the basic fundamentals of links. What’s most important is getting one-way links from sites that are relative to yours, the anchor text used in your link is also extremely important. Thousands of links from non relevant pages carry very little weight

Tell us how old the site is and place a link to the site in question in your signature, we could probably tell you more. PR is very important with Google but the shitty little green bar your looking at is useless, that’s called Toolbar PR A.K.A. TBPR

Ugh, I apprecite the general info, but i have a specific question here, and I need to make a decision:

If I'm have a listing on a good directory like business.com, and other good directories, should I worry about the PR of the page I'm on, or does Google just "see" that I have a link with this respected directory and the inner page i"m on does not matter(as far as ranking benefit) . this is what i need to know. thanks!

Obviously you dont get the difference between TBPR and PR, so I guess we are beating a dead horse. But to answer your question you should place your link under the category that matches the page that you will be linking to, regardless of what the TBPR is.

But you really have to evaluate the site and section you want to be on because if its full of hundreds of links or not spider friendly or if the directory page your link is on goes supplemental, the value of the link to you is diminished even more.

PageRank is an indicator of the total weight of your incoming links. Recomended reading: http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html and http://www.google.com/technology/

Why? PR is a pointless metric anyway, Even for google it's a minor factor in SERPS, and thats real PR, Toolbar PR is not only useless, but it's also innacurate and out of date.
