buying a expiring domain name, better for me in google?

first of all, i am doing google seo.(newbie)

one of my friend has a expiring domain name that he registered 3 years ago.
now this is a domain name with a page "underconstructon" only.
but this domain is included in yahoo directory and DMOZ, pr5 as well. under "toy" catalog.

i could get it from my friend(he has to renew it) or register it by myself when this domain expired.

i am considering
1.-the domain is under "toy" catalog but my site is about"business consultant", is this going to be a problem once i own the domain?
2.-if the pr will stay with the domain?

am i getting better result than setup another totally new name?

you need to purchase a domain in your industry from the current owner of the site so it does not reset. Find someone in the toy industry that wants to sell their site and buy it.

G is a registrar now and can see that it was expired and you are not the same person. It would be best if you can purchase an old domain with some old links and just update the whois data without tripping and reset filter on the domain.

If the site has a name related he should transfer it to a guy that will make a toy related site out of it, specially that he has the listing in dmoz.

If you want to grab the domain, you may transfer it so it doesn't expire.

You could take a new name also. If you find a good domain name that is better than the one your friend has. Unless you get the listing changed in dmoz...

The advantage would be that the site must already be crawled and could speed up page inclusion, specially if you keep the naming the same just changing content and tags...

Exactly, that DMOZ listing will be removed soon anyway unless a toy related site is placed there.
