Wazzup With Yahoo Now?????
Hey there SEO'ers,
I went on vacation to Arkansas (of all Places) last week and when I got back to my Serps checking I found that I just got destroyed in Yahoo! When I mean destroyed I mean DESRTOYED! I went for a #1-#4 position for my main KW to #68!??? I have, for the most part, always done very well on Yahoo. Anybody else experience this massive shift in your Serps? This really has me baffled. Slurp has been hitting my site daily and even tho I have a "store" there is a good deal of content and new content being added on a semi-regular basis. Actually Google and Yahoo are sucking up pages: Inktomi Slurp 3459+1108 54.86 MB 16 Jul 2006 - 18:32 Googlebot 1641+30 27.77 MB 16 Jul 2006 - 17:53 Anybody with some insight on this phenomenon? I can't see any problems myself. Thanks in advance all, Chris |
I noticed some minor shifts but all have been positive for me. Not sure what they base the rankings on right now. I am still researching it.

Web Gazelle,
Cool. . . .Somebody else is "on" the mystery too. I'm gonna step back for a day or two and see whet happens. I got "Yahoo On The Brain" right now and I am starting to do full circles in my logic thinking. Also I didn't notice the thread right below this one <duh> which I should have hit first. Chris |
I went from #1 and #2 for lot of keywqord to #34, #15, #45...and now they are starting to bounce back up. I even emailed the people at Yahoo and they said there was nothing wrong with my site, so I feel your pain!! I am trying to find out what the change was. I'll definitely let you know anything that I find out.

Didn't this just happen within the ast couple of days? Is it possible their still updating?
|
Snap,
You bring up a good point that I over looked. Hell I think I might have even started the thread! However, in the past, I have not seen such dramatic swings in the Serp's. It particularly affects me as over 20% of my traffic and $$$$ come from Yahoo! Google at 37% now (thank God). If ya take a peak over at http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000327.html you will see that the vast majority of people are none too happy. My response was: Quote:
And mine was one of the "nicer" ones. Well I'm sticking to my plan and just waiting it out. I am doing well enough on Google that I can lose (but rather not) some traffic from Yahoo. Chris P.S. One thing that I do notice is a bunch of brand spankin' new sites that are fresh out of the gate. I did some "WhoIs" and found sites created in may and april. No bl's either. Maybe we should all just start new sites?? |
I'm the opposite, for whatever reason i have not ranked well in Google since the Florida update several years ago. I have been relying on Yahoo and MSN for most of my traffic. I sure hope it straightens itself out in the next couple of days.
|
Well i was doin pretty well with yahoo for a very long time, had soo many top 10 spots and since last week there all gone :(
and the funny thing is while dumping the quality sites wit content, they hv put rubbish sites such as MSN groups and geo sites with 1 or 2 pages lol This is rediculous, and there's this other site which has only 2 pages and has Google PR 6 hehehe with over 1500 back links hmmmmm now howz that possible..? When u do a search on yahoo for "free adult webcams" you get some DNS site as well for domain related services lol Something is realy wrong  |
I had no big placements in yahoo, so I don't have anything to cry about.. I actually LOVE Inktomi since it's the most active bot for my site.. it indexes faster than the other 2..
|
No change for me. My site is still on 1st page :)
|
I have noticed a little change in my results but most have been for the better I have fallen for a few keywords but the algo is shifting very fast for Google and Yahoo that things should calm down soon.
This happens every time the updates happen. I would just sit tight and see what happens and don't make crazy changes. |
I havent noticed any change in SERPs for my homepage, but yahoo has increased the number of indexed pages on my site from 13 to 308. I had been stuck with only 13 pages in the index for months now.
|
I did notice very fast indexing from yahoo.. beats the hell out of msn and google..
|
Yahoo seems to have given me the boot on one set of keywords. Don't know what I did differently with those words.
|
I was looking at the new crappy resuts on Yahoo and noticed very few sites listed have a "links" page. Is it possible sites using reciprocal linking are being demoted?
|
I seem to be falling off a touch for some of my keywords in yahoo, and I do/did a lot of reciprocal linking for them.
We are still first page for most of them, and still #1 for our main term, but a lot of the others have fallen a bit. |

I'm sure you already know that SEO is a continuous effort. Maybe your competitors are working harder on their linking campaign at the moment. If not then the drop in SERPs may only be temporary. If I where you though, to be safe I would work harder on your backlinks. It can only help you in the long run. |
Yeah, they could be...I think it's just that I've been focusing more on my main terms the last few months, and more specifically in google. #1 for my top 2 google terms and #2 for the next two terms, so it's working well there. Now back the the 'others' :-)
|
I know that loads of people have been nailed by the yahoo update, but personally I've done the opposite.. I'm listing no 1 and 7 for 2 of my main converting keyphrases... and interestingly enough I seem to have gone up significantly in altavista at the same time

Hey Hey All,
Man I have poked, prodded, emailed, cursed, reviewed, reviewed again and have come up with no common denominator to the "NEW Yahoo" serp's. My listing has dropped even farther down since I started this thread. Algo quirk? F$%K up? Dumb ass engineers? Who knows. It looks like we might have to ride this out (for those who were effected). Yes everyone says Google is king and don't worry about Yahoo. But if you have a top 10 on Yahoo and a top ten on Google. . .You're Golden. It just so happens now that I have a top 10 in Google and Yahoo is FUBAR. Go figure. Chris |
Hi,
the hotels site in my sig file is rock solid in Yahoo even though I'm doing very little external linking other than forum sigs. All we're doing is adding content via on-site forum posts (much of it cut and pasted), but I'm sure a blog would do it too. Cheers, Paz. |
Yahoo has a new search bot. http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000334.html
I don't think I like what it has done! Think maybe I'll make a few changes on some pages and see if we're just needing to freshen things up. Belle |
Belle,
I missed that. Did ya read one of the last paragraphs? Quote:
Very interesting . . . .<best Shirlok Holmes voice> Chris |
Yes, I did see that. "Some shuffling" is a bit understated! I notice that I have gone down about 30 positions for one of my main keywords. My top two competitors - I don't know where they went!

That explains why Yahoo has been showing updates to my webpages a lot quicker then they used to. :D |
Yahoo is sucking me into the abyss!!
Hey Gang,
See this thread is still going! :) Yahoo has been spidering my site like mad. Yippee!! Except . . .I keep on going further down into the abyss. I am now #90 and #91. So I think I dropped another 30 spots from an ealier post. :fuct: I am just writing off Yahoo for now. If I come back, I come back. If not then oh well what can ya do? With a top 10 in Google for a few terms I am not about to fidget with my pages to please Yahoo. 'Nite All, Chris |
