Why we used

Hi all. We generally used following type of meta tags:

1. <title> ......................</title>
2. <meta name="description" content="......................... ">
3. <meta name="keywords" content=" ............................">

But I have seen many people used another meta tags along with above tags.

These are:

1. <META NAME="Title" CONTENT=".........................">
2. <META NAME="abstract" CONTENT=" ....................">
3. <META NAME="keyphrase" CONTENT=".......................... ">

I am little confused about this. Let me know what's these & why we used them.

Thanks & Regards

Hi, there are actually many tags to be used like, Title, Keywords, Description, Language, Global Vision, Refreshing Date, Authoring Code, Indexing and many more.

Nowadays, they are not as important as before because the era of Meta search enines is gone now. But the three mjaor ones of Title, Description and Kewords are used nearly in all websites. Just forget about the rest.

Also keep in mind that people have invented meta tags over the years, and others have blindly copied them. I guess that they were once at least as valuable as - say - a comment with your keywords in like so
Code:
<!-- comment spam keywords go here -->
Of course, that stuff doesn't work anymore, and neither do most of these metas.

Note that some pieces of software insert metas and comments to keep track of stuff. Frontpage is a 'good' example....
